Have to agree with bbilly, hes a level, at least, below the truly talented players, like Canning or one of many Kilkenny forwards in recent times.

1107275 One of the few players outside of Galway that I will miss. I loved watching this guy play and at his best was unmarkable. Not just a loss to Tipp but to all hurling supporters.

Here here, he's a big loss to the game, but you have to hope though that there is new talent and new names coming through.

Guys, there is no bigger supporter of JC than me but let's wait until he delivers at the highest level on the biggest stage before we start complaring him to Lar. Corbett has delivered on Senior inter county AI day, his 2009 and 2010 displays in the AI finals were amoung the best ever.

Onlyhurling, Corbett is not a patch on JC. Most of his scores were in high scoring matches that Tipp won well. Canning does it every day, regardless of opposition. Where was Lar against KK last year??????

why are people knocking Lar,he was and still is a great hurler and sportsman, how many of the posters on here would keep Lar quiet on the field.

A great goal getter. And goals win games.

Joe Canning has little or no impact on senior inter county hurling. He's a great man at club level or Fitzgibbon cup level.

Lar Corbett has won all star awards for the past 3 years and was hurler of the year in 2010. That's what I call impact.

I agree some ridiculous comments about the guy, a terrific hurler would enhance any county team.

arock, Lar was a class act, don't me wrong, I'm just saying he was'nt as good a hurler as Canning, DJ, King Henry, Eddie B, the list goes on, and thats only hurlers of recent years. It's not rediculous to say that, it's an honest opinion.

Only when Joe and Galway deliver on the big day can he be compared to Lar Corbett or Henry Shefflin or the like.

One of the greatest modern hurlers I wish him a happy retirement and thank him for providing me with plenty of entertainment over the years.

never saw Joe Canning score 3 goals against Kilkenny or 4 against Waterford
by the way how many senior all ireland medals has Joe?
Lar has 2 and will be back to pick up the third later in the year

Did you see the Walsh cup at the weekend? Joe Canning was the best player on the pitch against KILKENNY. Think iv made my point quicker than I thought I would. Don't want to take from Lar though, at his best he was probably good enough for any team in the country.

Fact of the matter is he has retired when he can offer so much more to Tipp over the next few years. Sounds like the Tipp county board didn't listen when he and many others were on the Late Late show last year. Sad to see him go but Gaelic Games are a past time and there are other priorities in one's life.
