What was the attendance anyway for Meath v Westmeath

I'm not good at judging crowds but I'd say there were about 17 million in Mullingar yesterday.

But seriously, there was probably about 3-4 thousand at it. And Meath fans far outnumbered Westmeath ones. And when you think that just 8 years ago, an O'Byrne Cup game between the two had to be delayed because of crowd congestion. It's disappointing how far Westmeath have fallen in that time.

12,000 in McHale park on Sat night I just heard. Not bad for the night that was in it with the rugby on and I know a alot of south mayo people who went to croker sunday and held of on mchale park. The replay should have an even bigger crowd as the GAA will have to allow free entry in.

100 thousand officaly attended the 3s pring series matches meaning average of 33 thousand a night so just up a few thousand on last year but saturday night crowd of 24 thousand was dissapointing i would have expected over 30 thousand.
seems to be same as last years attendances around the country in most countys also although gaa shot themselves in the foot today as only 500 turned out in pearse park for the monaghan v galway match not surprising

I didn't want to go to the Monaghan - Galway game to fear I wouldn't get a ticket outside the ground. Several thousand other Galway fans had the same problem.

Seems we where a bit too cautious.

I'd say the disappointing crowd in Croke Park last Saturday was more due to the Donegal style football and the lack of entertainment they bring to the pitch with them. I could see a low turnout a mile off.

There were more than 3 matches, Dublin v Cork and Tipp in the hurling and I think one other game as well?

But yeah Dublin crowds have been disappointing especially after winning the all-ire looks like it didn't do much in terms of interest. As for Meath great turnout for the Louth O'byrne cup and DCU game great crowds for the Monaghan, Westmeath , Kildare and Galway games but shocking turnout for the Derry and Tyrone ones. Hopefully we will redeem ourselves for the Louth game.

yes 3 evenings same attendance if its dublin footballers only or both hurlers and footballers on same card isnt it they dont add too seperate attendances like.
I wouldnt say dissapointing at them all only last game against donegal. for a sunday afternoon league match 25 thousand was a great crowd v armagh.
I dont see any other county or club team in sport in ireland have an average of 33 thousand at their matches you could hardly say the all ireland did nothing now especaily with the amount of kids that were at the league matches this year they definatly improved a few thousand on them.

I agree hill16101man.its good to see so many kids taking an interest in the games.Id also agree that getting over 20/25 000 to attend games in a competition that many Gaa people dont take that seriously is pretty good going.
You cant really say that the crowds were there for two games because very very few people were there for the beginning of the hurling match. Most dubs only showed up toward the end of the game as they wanted to see the football.

There are a few thousand Dubs that only go because of the hurling and then you have the supporters from the team the hurlers and footballers are playing. It's not like there all Dubs and considering all the promotion the series gets with advertising and musical acts it's a bad turnout when you think half the country are Dubs.

Not a bad crowd in castlebar, but would have thought it would have been bigger (is it really free in?)

anyone find it funny in todatsa times they had about 10 pages on rugby after the crap game between leinst and munster last night and one tiny column on dublin v mayo that drew over 10,000 people.

Hope that attendance last night helps fight the notion that it's admission prices which cause people to stay away from the league. 10'000 turn up when it's free in. Doubt that's even higher than a normal paid into match between those two teams. Admittedly some from Dublin might have gone the first night, paid in, but not been able to afford another trip west.

bigger crowd in Castlebar the night they had to pay, maybe after the Donegal and Cork matches mayo supporters thought they were in for another defeat so stayed at home, they will be out in their thousands the next day and Mayo will get tanked again, as usuall make the even slight favoutites and the collapse, tell them they havent a chance and they will win, funny team.

where you at croker for the league games?
cork in hurling had about 30 kids in the canal end on day trip there was about 50 in all cork supporters there and armagh had about 500.
tipp had biggest away crowd around a thousand and donegal had about as many as cork in the hurling so nearly was all dublin for them two evenings.
it gets very little promotion to be honest the evening herald is about the only ones who promote it fair, our papers in ireland are all about british sport and our media always has british sports as the main news.
give credit were credit is due 33 thousand is a great average for league games considering parnell only held 10 thousand for the league games two years ago the musical acts were crap with exception of the dubliners this year hardly drew people in to go to see two songs be performed by a band

your spot on the gaa and managers do very little to encourage crowds at league matches

Yup,most counties only play two or three champo games per year.Compare this to rugby and soccer where domestic teams play almost thirty games a year in tournaments (and none of these tournaments are played down like the league is played down in our games). The league is a great opportunity for the Gaa to give less successful counties a good run of games (thus promoting the game) but if teams arent too worried about winning it,well, opportunity lost.
Cant really think of anything the Gaa can do to change this though.
