League Attendance

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Excluding Croke Park attendances were very bad. 3'000 FOR Armagh v Cork is very low, I know Cork footballers have no support at all only when they play Kerry or get to a final but I would have expected a much bigger home support. I seen highlights of Derry v Galway on Sunday night, Celtic park was empty, I'd reckon Derry must have the worst home support in the country and the only traveling supporters Galway have are family members. Our own game (Louth) on Sunday was no different, 1500 max.

I know the Meath chairman said he reckoned there was 10,000 at the game but thats hardly the case??
6 or 7 thousand max I would have said.

Considering all the games on Sunday clashed with the big rugby international - it costs nothing to sit at home & watch it on tv - the attendances weren't bad. I think the Saturday night attendances were probably more encouraging. I've no problem paying a tenner into a league game.

Can't see why people would moan about paying €10. We're not that bleeding hard up, yet!

It was €13, think it was 10 of the queen's pounds.

Could people stop using matches involving Cork and/or Derry to support their poor attendances argument.
Both teams have always had pathetic support, particularly Cork for a county of its size.
Plenty of good crowds at other games.
It's the first round of the league lads, no need to panic just yet.

10 in to Wexford pk on Sunday for Wexford v Cavan which is ok really..I think is 13 for div 1 and 2 and 10 for 3 and 4 so there is an advantage in following crap teams..Although having to pay a 10 euros to watch Kilkenny footballers is taking the pss a bit!!

Having been in wexford park the previous week and paying E10 to watch 2 crap teams, a day out in freshford seems rather good value

The croke park games were a PR exercise. A good idea to kick start the season and justify the huge overheads involved in keeping it for a few full houses during a few weeks of the summer. They say it needs 30,000 to break even on opening croke park. Allowing paying for the sideshows and the loss of the take at both games being played as normal it could be considered a loss leader in retail terms

Maybe that's why attendances are so paltry, GAA supporters are stingy

1106866 Navan only hold 5,000 - this can't be true.

Dunno where your making up that nonsense figure from.

Even after the H & S reductions taken into account, the capacity is 15500

The reason the crowds at games are so poor is because the league has been devalued majorly. There is a lack of promotion for league games by the GAA, except when there are games in Croke Pk. Added to that some teams dont take the league seriously, with managers putting out weakened sides and some players not playing til ch'ship time. I even heard Jack O' Connor say before the Dublin match on Saturday night that it wasnt to important wheter they won or not, this shows the attitude towards the league.

I was in Newry on Saturday evening and was dissapointed with the crowd - there was more at the mckenna cup, only 4,000 maybe. alot of people watched it live on tv. In fairness there was very few donegal people - too great a distance to travel at night or stay over

armagh v cork , Cork were expected to hammerd armagh so maybe this affected the attendence. Also cork only took 5 -10 supporters with them, while armagh would take 1,500 to Cork with them.
I think a 10 euro is ample

Can anyone tell me how it costs 20 euro to go to croke park this sat. night to watch the hurling while for dublin/kerry/tyrone/kildare it was 13 euro
