1095039 One of the other great PR successes is this perception that rugby fans are sporting ecumenists with a "can't we all just get along?" mentality. The most virulently anti-gaa people I know are rugby fans first and foremost. And that takes some doing as I know plenty of league of ireland fans too! It made a lot of rugby fans from the traditional strongholds in south dublin absolutely sick to have to cross the river to go to games in Croke Park. They were bussed over and back like a military convoy as they refused to linger a second longer than necessary on the northside. I encounter people on a daily basis that went through the fee-paying schools system in South Dublin. A lot of them wanted Dublin to lose the 'bogball' final.

While the crap that the posh D4 posh and others from the neighbouring fee paying schools about the GAA would make you sick it's not just against the GAA. I was having a conversation with one such lad and we were talking about a Leinster match we had both gone to a few years back we steered off topic and he ended up going on about how rugby is now the number one sport in Ireland which he believed coming from his background where he would see or hear very little about the GAA.
But I will add its more a them against the boggers thing. From playing rugby with a country team where we often played against really posh south dublin clubs i've discovered how much they really look down on others from outside dublin and it sickened them when we constantly won those games.
And have a read through this, the rugby lads giving the soccer crowd a serious hammering!! Blaming all the violence at the leinster munster semi in croker on soccer fans. Thats worse than what we say about rugby on here!
oh and ormand i see the term rugger used at least once on there!!
Yes,some of the people in those schools are fools but so are may of the people in gaa schools and have never played rugby in their life. What violence at munster-leinster???? There was none, a few kids having a scuffle- not what you would call violence. In any large gathering there'll be the odd asshole. Thats not unique to Munster, Leinster or anyone else and happens everywhere where you gather 80'000 people or so
Yeah a lot of them hate soccer with a vengeance too. Ormondbannerman, it may be different in Munster but I can assure you that the snobbery and elitism associated with rugby in South Dublin is alive and well in 2012. I know enough people that have gone through the schools rugby system to be able to say that. It's a strange little bubble they live in.

Yes, there is snobbery amongst a minority of people who attend or attended fee paying rugby and hockey playing schools in South Dublin but ye talk here as if its only people who play rugby are snobbish, there is plenty of people who are GAA men and women who look down their nose at you because you dont play gaa. Dont be hypocrites. You say "its a strange bubble they live in" well ye all must live in a "strange bubble" with the abuse and non acceptance of rugby on this place(even if many of the posts are only wumming)

why are they snobby? crap game!
Your being quite snobbish there yourself tb have you played much rugby thurlesblues? if you havent dont comment. Ye are being hypocritical saying that the schools rugby set in dublin live in a strange little bubble when with the attitudes shown here towards rugby show ye are in a strange little bubble yereselves
ormand the funny thing is i heard reports from leinster fans on the hill of complete scumbags from munster (a group of 50 lads all teenagers) taunting and bullying leinster fans, and eventually a full blown scrap broke out. i think that is the violence they are talking about.
and i am still reading through the pages. remember this is boards.ie so its not just rugby fans although its a rugby thread. it's quite clear that the rugby lads in ireland brand the soccer crowd thugs a lot more than us GAA heads do!! Just think about that next time you go against one of us saying something negative about the sport. I doubt you ever stand against rugby fans talking down soccer but you stand against GAA fans talking down rugby.

Yes, i would defend soccer fans if i heard rugby fans saying things that i knew was rubbish. Again if there was a scrap between groups of youths like that it would have been mentioned in the papers I know many posters on this forum dislike rugby but that doesnt mean bbecause this is a GAA site that rugby has to be ripped to bits because some posters have backwards views. I know this isnt boards.ie but that doesnt mean the abuse of other sports or people should be allowed
Average Hoganstand poster-"rugby is elitest and not much good" Ormondbannerman-"Dont slag off rugby"
Now,Im just after saving you all about ten posts.Weve been having this debate for months now and no one has changed their mind, and no doubt when this thread disappears off the main page it will be replaced by a differently worded thread discussing the exact same topic.
