Good viewing figures alright. It's a pity efforts aren't made to sort out the championship structure though. It could surely be run better and even strealined better so there's not as much gaps between games?

Yes this is a GAA website but why do people insist on trying to bring down rugby every chance they get.
Correct it is a GAA website so why do people come on to promote other sports against the GAA. Also no mention of the many rugby forums criticising and lambasting the GAA, why don't they stick to promoting their own game instead of criticising our Irish game.

which rugby forums criticise the GAA????? Name 1. The 3 main irish rugby forums are munsterfans, leinsterfans and boards.ie and none of the abuse that rugby gets here is allowed of other sports and it doesnt happen as the members of these forums respect the GAA and gaelic sports and dont feel the need to post stupid comments about something they dont like. I dont come here to promote rugby, i discuss GAA as much as any topic.

Ormondbannerman, threads are started here on a regular basis where the opening post details how the GAA is in trouble and rugby is on some kind of inexorable march to becoming the no. 1 sport in the country. We're all sick of it. So when the counterpoint is put forward, that rugby actually isn't anywhere near as popular as the media and PR companies want you to believe, you should take it on the chin. Nobody is going out of their way to bash rugby but if someone wants to tell me the GAA is under threat from it, I will put forward an alternative view.

The last few threads that i have created have been on the 6 nations, pro12/heineken, big fat quiz of the year, irish times chequered flag crossword, katie taylors 5th european title in a row, sigerson/fitzgibbon cups, harty cup, all teams deserve at least 2 games in minor football,
I dont think there is any posts in the above threads where i post that the GAA is in trouble, i mainly comment that rugby is stronger than many people here care to admit but i never or rarely make comments that put the GAA in a bad light compared to the hundreds of posts on this site that have a go against rugby Rugby is increasingly popular. It more than likely will never ever touch the hearts and minds of as many irish people as hurling and gaelic football but its putting irish people at or near the top of their sport. We are being recognised as ome of the best around. It is a sport that we have a very good chance of doing well in pn an international stage, something we never will do in soccer. Dont go the usual way people here go and say rugby is a phantom illusion created by PR companies and the media because if you believe that......
I dont have a go against the GAA in my posts. i like hurling, g. football(not so much). Hurling is 1 of the worlds greatest field sports and we should be using it as a marketing tool for our great country but just because you dont like rugby it doesnt mean you should be allowed abuse and habve a go at anyone who follows rugby
Rugby is increasingly popular, there is many strong underage and adult rugby clubs where only a few years ago rugby wasnt even on the horizan. Nearly everyone who plays is irish and could potentially go on to represent their club, province and country with pride. What is wrong with that?

i dont understand the staements made here that gaa is only number 1 sport in ireland in august and september. dublin had the biggest attendances of any irish sports team between the months of february to may for the national league games. they also had the biggest tv viewings for those months which peaked for both national league finals on tg4 which also hosted live soccer and rugby games during this period.

The views of some of the GAA-heads here are completely over the top, clannish and over-protective
Who the hell is criticising the GAA on any of these threads?
People are just making the point that other sports, Rugby being the prime one, is getting increasingly popular and pondering the possibility that it may overtake GAA in terms of following, maybe it will, maybe it won't, it makes for interesting debate - but who is dissing the GAA in this discussion?
For a small country like ours, we have a prolific story to tell in sports, we have our home grown GAA that is watched world wide and are regarded among the best & most skilful sports in the world, we have rugby clubs that are among the best in Europe and a national team amongst the top rankings on earth, we have a cricket team that is earning worldwide attention, we have soccer players competing in the European championships & who should have been at the last world cup, we have athletes with high hopes in the upcoming Olympics, boxers established to a global degree, need I go on?
For a small nation like ours, our sports pedigree is something special. That is something to be proud of and to be cherished
But the second anyone mentions any other sport in the same sentence as the GAA, people go on the ultra-defensive and misconstrue what is generally a decent topic of discussion as some sort of attack against the GAA
It's painfully closed-minded in my view

There you go you named one yourself. Did anyone ever read the pompous, self righteous drivil that these people talk about our national games? It is a complete disgrace what these stuck up spoiled tory boys are saying about the GAA. However I don't go around posting on their forums, let them get on with it.

One of the other great PR successes is this perception that rugby fans are sporting ecumenists with a "can't we all just get along?" mentality. The most virulently anti-gaa people I know are rugby fans first and foremost. And that takes some doing as I know plenty of league of ireland fans too! It made a lot of rugby fans from the traditional strongholds in south dublin absolutely sick to have to cross the river to go to games in Croke Park. They were bussed over and back like a military convoy as they refused to linger a second longer than necessary on the northside. I encounter people on a daily basis that went through the fee-paying schools system in South Dublin. A lot of them wanted Dublin to lose the 'bogball' final.

"That'll upset the barstooling classes."
"Also, something that doesn't sit well with me is the spectacle of GAA teams scrounging around looking for the price of a holiday. "

"There's exceptions to the rules but alot of GAA boys get treated like hero's for a fews weeks stone age training and playing one or two high profile games. I know everyone can't be painted with he same brush. But I choose to do just that in my over the top hatred of these chumps. "

Yes. I live very close to two colleges worse than above and my local DUBLIN publican(Marys guy) was sick when Dublin won. One more point I have noticed on this GAA website and another poster(s) who never comment on GAA related matters but only post on rugby threads.

It is a forum for Gaelic Games and i support my parish club and my county. even the dubs where i lived for several years and can still remember the day in primary school in '95 when Sam came to visit Just because it is a GAA forum doesnt mean you have the right to abuse other sports, no matter your passion for the GAA.

While the crap that the posh D4 posh and others from the neighbouring fee paying schools about the GAA would make you sick it's not just against the GAA. I was having a conversation with one such lad and we were talking about a Leinster match we had both gone to a few years back we steered off topic and he ended up going on about how rugby is now the number one sport in Ireland which he believed coming from his background where he would see or hear very little about the GAA.
But I will add its more a them against the boggers thing. From playing rugby with a country team where we often played against really posh south dublin clubs i've discovered how much they really look down on others from outside dublin and it sickened them when we constantly won those games.
And have a read through this, the rugby lads giving the soccer crowd a serious hammering!! Blaming all the violence at the leinster munster semi in croker on soccer fans. Thats worse than what we say about rugby on here!
