GAA still Top Dog!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

GAA is still top dog in the hearts and minds of the Irish and Northern Irish public. The All Ireland football and hurling finals received the top viewing figures with the two all ireland football semi finals also in the top ten.

Of course the GAA is still top. But it makes you wonder why RTE/TG4/TV3/Setanta wouldn't cover games like Meath v Louth tomorrow or Dublin v Kildare/Ofally in the O'Byrne cup semi if they end up meeting eachother. I presume TG4 will at least cover the O'Byrne cup final?

You're correct that the O'Byrne Cup final last year between Kildare and Louth was not shown live but the game between Kildare and Westmeath- semi final I think- was shown live by TG4.

Yeah I remember watching it on Kildare TV. Fair play to them for making the effort. Was a good and entertaining game for January.

In fairness Bettystown,Ormond is infinitely preferable to ballboy. To be fair to him ormond never slags off the gaa,he just defends rugby when it is attacked on this forum.Nothing wrong with that.If someone had a go at the gaelic games on the soccer forum Id defend our games.

Im not that clown, dont insult me by trying to claim any link to him.
Che, ive never really claimed rugby is top dog, only defended it when posters like you and many more post stupid things about the sport and how some posters dont admit that rugby is more popular than they like(want) it to be

Haha ormand I was joking with you lad I know you never slag off the GAA and to say I dislike rugby is a joke, I can bet my house I've played at a far higher level than you (at rugby), so why would I not dislike rugby? There are things about the sport I dislike such as the amount of media coverage it gets compared to the GAA and the way some of it's members go on but the sport itself I've nothing against.

What level you played at and with who, if you dont mind me asking?
Some aspects of rugby get a disproportionate amount of media attention but others get very very little. I imagine you are talking about the schools set in leinster/ulster but they are so stuck up theyd laugh at e and others from limerick, tipp etc who play rugby.

Yes I respect rugby folk from down your way but unfortunately I had the displeasure of playing on a few teams with those more upper class rugby lads. I would be all for them giving club rugby a bit more of the spot light but the amount of attention some aspects get all year round is a joke and an insult to the larger GAA community.

If you and many others here think that rugby gets too much attention in newspapers etc, write to them asking why GAA doesnt get more coverage and for what reason rugby gets the attention it does. Newspapers publish what their readers want and what makes them money and clearly judging by the amount of attention that goes on the schools cups etc they are a big money spinner for newspapers etc
