If Galway can bring those lads in from their underage success - and turn them into serious senior players - then by the looks of what I've seen of their underage footballers - They'll have a decent team in about 3 or 4 Seasons - it's all down to the management team though - Galway havent got that element right for a number of years.
All the best to them

skinthecat Galway lads don't rise to the bait. We are used to this jealousy it has been in existence since our near neighbours first kicked a ball and will continue until they can win an all Ireland which won't be anytime soon. I genuinely hope mayo win an all Ireland I like most galway people feel sorry for their supporters.
Jealousy? Of what? Winning 1 game outside connaght in ten years? You are raving. Mayo have won all irelands, just like galway have, what is your point? You seem to think that because galways are more recent that this has some value. How exactly? Only mathew clancy can boast a medal in the current squad and he cant get the start. what relevence does it have? This thread just reminds me how ill-informed many on this forum are. When mayo lost to longford there were many on this forum saying that mayo were finished and galway were a coming team and AI contenders! I read another beauty on here that compared padraic joyce to brian dooher! You would wonder do they watch football at all.

Ok, how about this gem from last year from the Greatest Living Mayoman:
liathroidboy County: Mayo Posts: 4921 10/08/2011 11:23:43 1007956 i dont mind playing donegal in the final but i just think people would put it down as a soft all ireland when mayo beat donegal in the final. thats why i would perfer the dubs- not that they are any better than donegal but its better fun dishing out a beating to the teachers pets -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That was intelligent of you. Pull up a copy of a post from the most well-known WUM on HS who has never posted on the Mayo forum and who's county identity remains a mystery! Try harder. Find a post from a genuine Mayo supporter.

TheMaster (yeah right!) are you saying Padraig Joyce who has 2 AI medals in his backpocket was / is not a great player? He has shown terrific footballing skill and leadership over many years long after many of Galway best players from the 98 to 01 era had finished with the county team. He certainly deserves to be right up there with the great forwards of the modern era and Galway teams have depended on him much more than Tyrone depended on Dooher as Dooher had much more support from better players around him. Mayo people have been very arrogant about their so called "success" winning a few meaningless Connacht titles given they have won no AI in 61 years!

Try harder yourself. Speaking of intelligence, you might also check your grammar - 'whose' rather than 'who's'. The only sensible Mayo poster that comes to mind is yew_tree. Unfortunately, there's too many like yourself, ballboy and paddyogall who post on this forum. And you wonder why Mayo are disliked?!

Rosfan - A SPENT FORCE!!!!! AI minor in 06, AI minor semi last year. Consistently making progress since 2009, St Brigids by far the most consistent and best club side in the province. You have not got a clue. Roscommon will be more than a match for Galway and it will be in the Hyde. Listening to this crap I hope we beat Galway well so I can rub it in your face.
----
Oh Rosfan, I am sick and tired of Roscommon still going on about this All ireland minor title in 2006. We have been just as, if not more successful at underage level than Roscommon( Two All Ireland u21 titles and one All Ireland minor title in the last 6 years) and we don't go on about it every two minutes. Sure ye can have your Connacht minor and under 21 titles and some moral victories over Galway and Mayo in those age groups along the way. But when it comes to senior level Roscommon will never cut, they are bellow Galway and Mayo and always will be.
I am being harsh, I know, but Roscommon fans are the most arrogant I have ever come across (who keep going on about these great underage teams, with frankly, nothing to show for it).
See you at the Hyde and try to have the pitch in respectable order this time.
With love, ahsure.

Ailteoir, please don't even attempt to put me in the same bracket as ballboy and POG. All I have done on this thread is deny that Mayo supporters are arrogant. I didn't put Galway or anyone down or say anything offensive. Some posters were saying that Mayo people were always going around saying that we were going to win the All-Ireland every year, and I denied it. So answer me, what is wrong with that?? So far the only evidence you have come up with is a WUM post from ballboy.

Roscommon have been consistently more competitive at underage level than Galway over the last 6 years despite 2 AI minors. Also though we have not won an AI we have won a connacht title after that defeat by mayo the year before. That showed some character. We threw away the connacht final against mayo. Galway STILL rely on Padraic Joyce which is insane for all yer talent. Roscommon were in the doldrums but it takes time to build a team and we do not have the resources Galway have. To say Roscommon are a spent force is farcical. We are competitive with Galway and Mayo. We do not fear Galway and ye better be ready for a battle in the hyde. We are not arrogant we are obviously not as successful as Galway at intercounty level but we have had a bit of success with underage over the last few years and we have every right to enjoy it. So enough of your nonsense.

I shouldn't have to come back to this thread but "Ah sure " is talking nonsense again!
"when it comes to senior level Roscommon will never cut, they are bellow Galway and Mayo and always will be."
That's one of the most arrogant posts i have ever have the misfortune to read. first off the two last decades (when clearly you were born) we had no players/under aged talent to challenge the best in Connacht, We always have a small pick compared to Mayo,Galway but whenever the talent is there we more than held our own.
"keep going on about these great underage teams, with frankly, nothing to show for it"
In the last six years (2006-2011) between Minor,U-21 & Senior we have played in 11 Connacht finals winning 4 & won one All Ireland. In the same time in the same levels Galway have played in 9 Connacht finals winning 3 & won two All Irelands.
As you can see not a lot in! once again where good enough to challenge the best in Connacht & if you don't want to agknowledge us so be it however i believe we will beat Galway in May & i'm rarely wrong.

First off, to ispeakwisdom and co, I'd like to apologise about my post attacking Roscommon football. Looking back, I said things I should not have said and again, I apologise.
Anyway, a lot of my post of hate against your county drives from last years Connacht Minor final when your supporters booed 17/18 year old freetakers from Galway. I was disgusted. Then again, I had a spat with a Roscommon fan in the 1998 Connacht final replay at the Hyde also, but thats neither here nor there and looking back at my post I got caught up in the whole thing.
Just to say, Roscommon at underage level have been the most consistent in the province over the last 6 years and that brings a welcome change. Combine that with a lot your young players turning out for DCU and other third level colleges on a regular basis at the highest level of college football, it bodes well for your counties footballing future. If ye could battle emigration and have patience, it could be a successful decade for Roscommon football and I wouldn't begrudge ye of that.
edit: I know I'm off topic, just needed to clear a thing or two up with my sheepstealer friends.

Just to clarify, since 2002 Galway have actually won 3 U21 titles and 1 minor title which is the best record in the last decade of any Connacht county and probably all of Ireland.

Didnt joyce retire from inter county at the end of last season? Even if he hasnt, the team that won the all ireland is long gone, so for galway lads to still be trading on their success is a bit much

Good post ahsure and glad there is acknowlegment of Roscommons underage. Was shocking to hear people boo a 18 year old in a minor game but that is the minority. Most Roscommon fans appreciate good players and Shane Maughan (I think it was him the fans were booing but correct me if i am wrong) is a very good prospect.

For now though, the battle goes on. lol

@The Master - It's a gas that you criticize others as being 'ill-informed'. Just where do you get your 'facts' about Galway players from? Given Mayo's record since 1951, you're not exactly in a position to be criticizing Galway.

sounds like a debate tyrone and armagh people will have in a few years oh we won minor that year and you won minor this year, how come cavanaugh and mcdonald is still playing, how come we cant win sam anymore. meanwhile kerry will still keep winning all irelands as the tyrone and armagh posters (plus ulsterman and mickeylinden) are debating how many underage titles are won by both teams.
