Fermanagh for Ulster

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Maybe more important for Fermanagh to get out of Division 4 of the league.

Just interesting to see the opinions on Derry. I think they're a team that are capable of putting it up to, if not beating, the top sides on their day. Consistency has always been the problem though. There will be hunger there this year after narrowly losing the Ulster Final last year. It all makes for an interesting Ulster Championship. And to think there are those who would rather do away with it...

Derry are a slow ponderous team full of big men slow as carthorses and in the tackle easily bottled up won,t win nothing

Never usually take a defeatist attitude towards my county, but I actually do fancy Fermanagh to beat Down in the championship (again). Will be another year of underachievement for the Mourne County IMO. I feel we have lost too many talented (experienced) players from the squad. Fingers crossed the younger lads come in and me wrong. If we stay in div 1 i will be delighted. Hope Fermanagh do well this year, just not on the 3rd June ;)

And Clare will win Munster, Leitrim- Connaght, and Carlow to win Leinster. All Ireland to be won by Waterford, via the back door

A good start for Peter's men beating Antrim 2-11 to 1-6 yesterday

I know it's early days and some feel these matches aren't really a reflection on the league/championship but for now what more can they ask for?

Fermanagh definatley put it up to Donegal over the years and have beaten us in Ulster a few times but that was a way better team than the current batch of players. I think that Peter Canavan will bring the very best out of the players that are there and over a few years you may see them pushing for honours but I feel that Ulster won't be achievable this year for them. Get promotion and playing better teams in a higher division to improve will be their main focus for this year.

As much as I would love to say Donegal will win Ulster again this year my head is also saying Derry. I think Donegal will try to alter their play this year and ultimately this will take a year to develop for that reason I feel this year may not be as good as last but the league will be an indicator. I think that Derry will still be hurting from the Ulster Championship last year where everything did go against them, injuries to the two Bradleys being their biggest loss. I feel Derry will have the hunger to win it this year and if it's not Donegal then I hope it's Derry!!

how on earth are fermanagh going todo anything after last years shambles...not even canavan can work wonders with this lot...how is the likes of barry owens expected to play/train with the players that abandoned them last year...owens himself has gone on the record to say how disgusted he was with the attitude of players who left the panel...surely other players feel the same who stayed to try and keep the county competitive, instead of skulking off...canavan has his work cut out here...way behind donegal, derry, tyrone, armagh and down...so how would they bridge this gap to win ulster...

2 out of 2 wins now with Peter in charge, not bad going at all

I know it's early days in the extreme but what do Fermanagh folk make of this? It would appear he has certainly started ye on the right track.

Very early days yet. Step in the right direction though. Just hope fans don't loose the run of themselves. A lot of folk down this neck of the woods are already talking about an ulster title. Wednesday nights game will tell a lot.

Have you seen Derry play? S.L. McGoldrick, G. O'Kane, E.Bradley, Enda Lynn, Neil Forrester and Chrissy Mc Kaigue are no carthorses mate anyway we want to win Ulster not the London Olympics 100 meters. I didn't know monaghan had Usain Bolt.

Well it all comes to "Down" to one big game for Fermanagh. If they win their opening Ulster championship game after promotion from the league anything would be possible against the winners of Antrim v Monaghan. If they reached the Ulster final they would have 2 chances of reaching an all ire-land quarter final.

2 games, 2 wins for Fermanagh in the McKenna Cup. A great start no one can deny. However before we conclude Fermanagh will win Ulster i would be worried that most of their scores are coming from one man, Seamus Quigley. What happens when he dries up? Who will be doing the scoring? I dont think wee Peter has no intentions of pulling on the green jersey but he might have to

Quigley has been fantastic thus far but he's not alone on that panel - watch out for Danny Kille - a great sharpshooter who scored Lisnaskea all the way to an All-Ireland. Prolific from play, clinical freetaker from the hand or the ground and a lot more mobile than Quigley. I agree though - this year should be about building for Canavan and Fermanagh - but don't write them off... for that matter, when were they even written on - and arguably they would have put a better challenge to Kerry than mayo did a few years back. One last point - a lot of talk here about Fermanagh's old guard - as far as I know they are all pretty much 30 at the oldest.

to be honest your living in la la land if you think Fermanagh will win Ulster, forget about it this is no disney film its the school of hard knocks. Down will walk to the final and should be favourites to win the anglo - celt.
