Fermanagh for Ulster

Bet of the year. With Peter Canavan at the helm and the old guard back I think they'll give it a real rattle!!

Can't see that happening, Cavanvan has a mammoth task to get Fermanagh back up & running & it's difficult to see that happening in his very first season

Then again, that's what they said about Jim McGuinness & Donegal......

This made me laugh.

Canavan is untested as an inter-county manager, not a hope have they of winning Ulster in his first season. The comparisons with McGuiness are justified, but Donegal had promising footballers at their disposal, Fermanagh simply don't have the men.

A very arresting statement there Sergeant, but you're right. McGuinness & Donegal proved that anything can happen though even I can't see it myself with Fermanagh

Anyhoo, no true Gael likes to see a team stuck in the doldrums as badly as they are so I hope they have a good season

If anything, they have the 'favourable' side of the draw in Ulster to reach the final. Down in Brewster Park first up. A tough tough game for them, but one which they can go at with absolutely no fear. And they have turned Down over in Brewster before in recent years. Difficult to see it but not impossible. The winners playing Antrim/Monaghan in the semi final. Again, nothing to fear there for them but up against it. The final against Donegal/Derry/Tyrone/Armagh (Sorry Cavan)would be a different story..

This year, promotion from Division 4 and reaching the last 12 of the All-Ireland through the Qualifiers would be a fantastic result for them

Good luck to Fermanagh but it's hard to see any vast improvements in the nex few seasons . Like Enola said they have a fighting chance of making an Ulster final but even that's a stretch . A few wins in the McKenna cup and NFL along with a favourable back door run is all I can see for them .

One step at a time boys, one step at a time! Best of luck for the season anyhow.

Dubbydave - out of interest, why Derry? There seems to be a lot of punters out there backing them to lift Ulster. They have a hell of a difficult draw.

I fancy Derry myself Enola. I think if either of the Bradleys were fit last year they would have beaten Donegal. Don't think Tyrone will do a whole pile, Armagh has gone backwards. If either of the Bradleys are fit I feel they will lift Anglo Celt this year.

As another poster said i do feel myself its a bit early for predicting a fermanagh ulster title.P.C will bring alot to this team and will probably bring out the best in the squad he has. I also think they wont be an easy team to beat as like before.

To be honest I just dont think Fermanagh have the players. No matter how good Canavan is, he cant do anything if he doenst have the players. Give them another few years though and you wouldn't know. I could be proved wrong though, who knows they might go all the way this year.. I just dont see it

Can't see why there is so much suprise at this notion.
If GOD and co build momentum in div 4 then fermanagh can suprise a lot of people this summer.
Remember there is absolutely no pressure on them & the bulk of the lads who got to Ulster final are still around so experience is not an issue.

With everyone else back from injury - Barry owens and eamon maguire.
I just think that there could be a sting left in the tail of this bunch of players - write them off at their peril.

Who would have predicted donegals year 12 months ago.

Pete is astute - he has seen enough in this group of layers to know there is potential and hunger there.
A lot of these players who stayed away and stayed on the panel will want to set the record striagh this year.

Would love to see another oddysey!!

i honestly thought derry had a great chance to win the ulster title this year i went to see them play against donegal with a few friends and they seemed to playing ok at stages pushing the ball forward and geeting points i think it all changed when they referred to the quick hand pass donegal were just to strong for them but one thing that stood out most on that day was derry missing the presence of the bradley bro's and imo if they had them on the day i think i would have been derry lifting the cup............

Dont understand the comparisons with donegal here. Donegal were after coming from within a crossbar of winning an AI at under 21 level many of which made the step up. Glenties had a promising club run through ulster and donegal were always able to take atleast one big scalp each year. They were inconsistent but if they came with the head right could beat anyone.

As much as id love to see fermanagh do well (big run under mulgrew was a joy to see), I just dont see it. as was said before promotion inthe league is probably the most they can expect.

fancy derry myself. found their feet last year in the mckenna cup and league, narrowly missed out on promotion, lost paddy bradley before ulster championship and still manged to make the final, lost eoin week before final and didnt screw it up too much and we put it up to kildare in croker - they couldnt handle us for 20 mins, but we werent used to the open spaces without at least one of the bradleys; things can only get better, right?
having both bradleys back for championship (fingers crossed) and a good run in the league and we'll be up for revenge against donegal in the first round (no disrespect to cavan) and i think we'll go one better than last year. well, heres hoping anyway...
