It should be bought out by a syndicate of true gaels. Throw out the few regulars that dont comply, there would be killing to be made from customers that turn up a a few times a year plus the few packed out days during the summer when it's full to the rafters anyway

:)

dhorse on the money.

Footballforever, youre saying the lot of us should grow up?Ive found most posters on here to have a very understanding, mature and realistic attitude toward the pub in question.

1080816 Exactly hill16,most British run newspapers do do very little to promote Gaa,I agree, but what Im saying is that the Gaa should try and change that as it would increase the profile of our games.
Last September the AI Final (played on front of 82 300 people) got zero coverage on sky sports news, but some Indy racing contest in the back woods of the american south that people this side of the atlantic would have very little interest in would probably get a segment dedicated to it.

Sky pay no attention or very very little to any sporting event they do not have the rights to, case in point their rugby coverage spends very little amount of time on the 6 nations with regard to how big a tournament it is

Sky are owned by the murdochs who run fox, and there would be as more in the UK who would watch indy racing than the all ireland finals

True ormondbaneerman (I think) but surely a sporting event an hour long plane journey away with an attendance of 82 300 people and over a million watching on tele deserves a mention.

how am i ignorant london and new yorks particpation in the all ireland championships is only a way of trying to give guys abroad an outlet for meeting other irish people and a social aspect.take new york for example they play one match in the whole gaa calendar year how are they ever going to improve by playing one match a year? you also have the expenses side they wont travel over here even if they do win haha so what would happen if they made a provinicial or all ireland final would it have to be held in new york what a pharse that would be.london on the other hand continualy finish 2nd last in divison 4 with only kilkenny below them who do not participate in the leinster championship.they do not bring new players through (london born players) they rely on guys leaving ireland for work.
if dublin were to take every country guy who came up here for work and club football would you agree with that? im not saying gaa sports should not played all over the world what im saying is why on earth should an irish sport hand over there tv rights to a british based televison station who would put it last in the order of sports.

TO GET BACK TO THE TOPIC A PUB IN IRELAND SHOWED A SOCCER GAME THAT WAS WATCHED BY MILLIONS OVER A DEFERRED CLUB HURLING MATCH WATCHED BY A FEW HUNDRED ON A CHANNEL THAT NOBODY CAN UNDERSTAND.WHAT HAS IRELAND COME TO? FOR SHAME!!!

and you call me ignorant, there were people sitting down watching the hurling match on the televison first so why should the bar man change the channel on them customers to suit two guys who justwalked in and wanted the other match on,why didnt he tel them he would put the soccer on another screen for them.
watched by millions haha yes around the world maybe because its a global sport not watched by millions in ireland that were your wrong.and how ignorant is it to say on a channell nobody can understand there are plenty of real gaa people who can speak and understand irish it is our national language maybe you have spent to long in the uk.the gaa is number 1 sport in ireland on two counts in attendance and televison viewings

I have no idea what you are talking about here but yes if a soccer match is on the tele and you come in for food and would like to watch the hurling or football or golf or horse racing etc, you should ask at the bar will they turn it over. If they say no then go buy your food somewhere else or just go to the bloody match and buy a bag of chips at half time

no thats were your wrong the soccer match wasnt on the screen first read the original posters statement the hurling was on the screen when he arrived and they sat down to watch it and ordered food then after about ten minutes the bar man switched over to the soccer because two guys who came in wanted it on

I objected strongly, only to be brushed aside by the Barman, we sent a message to our other friends not to come, finished our food and left, and on the way out made a complaint to the Staff at Reception.

To be honest I think most people would rather watch Liverpool v Man City and I think you made a complete spectacle of yourself sam02 if the above is true.

Ps I have no idea what hill16no1man is saying, I refuse to read his posts because he's a malicious liar and I'd urge other to ignore his posts aswell because they're of no worth, thank you.

haha was wondering when this guy would jump to his buddys side, guess you must be sick dublin won the all ireland and only coming to terms now,for the record i made one typing mistake in a post and this guy took a major offence to me,as for liar i presume your referring to the fact that i got each way on stephen cluxton getting nominated for player of the year,33 euro and my 3 euro stake makes 36 euro i collected

New York and London play as a recognition to the Irish Diaspora, not a holiday, they rarely play in Ireland - if at all. Such ignorance.

By the way, I'm not saying Soccer is or should be more popular than GAA or vice versa, there are viable points to both sides of that argument, I for one will never pick soccer over hurling or football and but if you were to drop the national pride for a moment & be pragmatic, you have to admit when it comes to TV figures, there is only one winner and that's soccer, unfortunately

gigoer i started to get on with you on points but have to disagree here
yes globaly soccer is bigger then gaa obviously because gaa is only played in ireland and dont start winging about new york and london and the cayman islands even who are may i add playing the all ireland champions this weekend haha.so yes soccer is a world wide sport but in our island of ireland soccer is not the number 1 sport.if it was the number 1 sport it would have the highest attendance figures which it only lies in third spot behind gaa and rugby.
you dont like me saying this but it is true the gaa has by far the biggest tv audience the nielsen listings prove this.the toy show is the only progrme each year that comes in ahead of the all ireland finals.this year the all ireland final came in at 1.4 million viewers the toy show came in at 1.4 million also make them the joint highest viewed programes,so surely that goes to prove that the gaa is the number 1 sport in ireland

Such ignorance is right. London play in the NFL, and so play a lot of games in Ireland.

i agree but going to sky sports is not a way forward, promoting our games in our own media is where we need to get stronger our target market is the 32 countys inside ireland so the gaa should be making sure rte and tv3 air much more sports news time to gaa after all its gaa matches that are getting them there highest viewings so they should be reminded of that and not have a situation where on a sunday cardiff beating bristol city gets more air time on the six one news then a national football league match.our newspapers are the big problem we need more irish run newspapers the much maligned by some posters from outside dublin evening herald is a leader in promoting all sports equally this is the way it should be

yes i can see you know how to think for yourself there clearly and let me guess the x factor is by the far the best entertainment programme on tv sure doesnt the media put it in your face 24/7 so that means they have to be the best singers even though if they were any good in the first place they would have been picked up by a record company

I dont know bbilly.Soccer games can be hard to stomach after watching a hurling match.Kind of boring.Get with the times? In these times,in sport, glamour comes first, entertainment second.

Too right, had lunch there a few weeks back and they had lasagna on the menu, not mention of bacon and cabbage, Micheal Cusack would have founded the GAA in the anner if he was about nowadays

Reading that message made me think of one of Luke Kellys great songs.

FOR WHAT DIED THE SONS OF ROISIN.

For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it fame?
For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it fame?
For what flowed Irelands blood in rivers
That began when Brian chased the Dane
And did not cease nor has not ceased
With the brave sons of '16
For what died the sons of Róisín, was it fame?

For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it greed?
For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it greed?
Was it greed that drove Wolfe Tone to a paupers death in a cell of cold wet stone?
Will German, French or Dutch inscribe the epitaph of Emmet?
When we have sold enough of Ireland to be but strangers in it
For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it greed?

To whom do we owe our allegiance today?
To whom do we owe our allegiance today?
To those brave men who fought and died that Róisín live again with pride?
Her sons at home to work and sing
Her youth to dance and make her valleys ring
Or the faceless men who for Mark and Dollar
Betray her to the highest bidder
To whom do we owe our allegiance today?

For what suffer our patriots today?
For what suffer our patriots today?
They have a language problem, so they say
How to write "No Trespass" must grieve their heart full sore
We got rid of one strange language now we are faced with many, many more
For what suffer our patriots today?

Apart from the top of the table clashes watching the premiership imo is like watching paint dry.
