Kevin Cassidy dropped!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

dstruction: i have the book and read all Cassidys chapters (just skipped to them since its so topical at the minute :P ) anyways like you said think there might be more than meets the eye. he says a few times how guilty he felt leaving sarah and the twins, how he could see the stress in sarahs face & how bad he felt leaving his twins crying nights. That said, the book ends with jim saying "see you next year Kevin" and he replies "without a shadow of a doubt" so its hard to know really. And to be honest there was nothing in the book that I felt wasnt pretty obvious already. training were open for all to see and the tactics were quite obvious. he did reveal a few things I suppose: like jim taking there phones before the dublin game, the mening behing=d the wristbands and i suppose a deep insight into how they preped before every game. but i still dont think he deserved the treatment he got.

I see all the big guns in Donegal are coming out in support of Jim McGuinness, such as McHugh and Bonner.
They must see the whole Cassidy Comotion as a serious threat to the Donegal cause and have politically placed their support with McGuniness.
I smell a revolt !

The management was left with utterly no choice. there was stuff written about management down thru the years as well as current management. Its not just about honour etc. there is personal stuff included that lacks respect. Its a pity because Cassidy was one of our best players this year and will b missed next year if he doesnt play.

I was sure when this news first broke that he would definitely be back in the squad by next year, but it looks now that its gone to far and there seems no way back for him.

What a great player he is too, strong as an oxe. Guess its Donegals loss and our gain to not have to play against him in next years ulster

There is alot of nonsence written about this topic, I seem to remember that the indo on Sat and again set the ball rolling by coming out in support of Cassidy. Those of us who have managed teams know the manager in that situation has only one option. He (the manager) set out the ground rules, all the players were aware of them once they are breached either the player or the manager goes. It is vital in all sports that what is planned/argued/discussed in the dressing room stays in the dressing room. I note Davy Fitz (mobile phone recording in dressing room) and Val Andrews (players posting to social network sites) had similar problems. That type of behaviour undermines the team. McGuinness is right.

i think its hilarious the treatment cassidy has got, oh how it will backfire. in truth cassidy will be missin out on nothing, the way he has been treated is a disgrace, hes an amateur, he can do what he wants, what right does mcguinnes have doing what he did, even taking his mobile phone off him, for what he gave up for the cause, tbh im also dissapointed at no1 in donegal actually sticking up for him considering he had a huge part to play in where they got to, as for mchugh siding with the manager, no doubt he was a good footballer in the day, but of all the journalists and tv panelists! common sense tells ya that hes been treated wrong, reminds me of mcgeeney doing the same thing to a player from kildare becasue he attended oxyegen, this bulls**t of asking a team to comply to their rules is pathetic, obv they all do it, they have no choice, in fairness in the kildare camp, jonny doyle was hardly guna hit oxygen r earley, was your man ment to wait till he was retired at 32, same way in donegal players agree that yeh wel not so anything out of turn, more often than not they wont anyways cuz theres nothing to oppose, when will intercounty managers cop themselves on!!!!! is an amateur organisation no matter how proffesional things have went, remember no player recieves a penny for their sacrifises.

Taking mobile phones of players before the Dublin game!! Did they get their bottoms smacked for not winning? This is the sort of stuff you hear about in fourth class primary school. You wonder where the GPA is in all of this, I repeat the GPA? anyone ever hear of them?

arock... was just wondering how come the GPA havent done anything ? I suppose theres not much they can do about him being kicked off the team but the fact that "he isnt welcome to florida" anymore is a complete disgrace!! And correct me if I'm wrong but isnt it the money I spend on donegal gaa all throught the year thats paying for Florida ? If it is I want Kevin to go on the money my family has spend through the years

I see Michael Murphy has backed Jim McGuinness' decision to drop Cassidy. Is it that he's worried he might also get droped? Cassidy isn't a pro so should be able to talk to who ever he wants. This isn't North Korea!! Also where were the GPA in all this surely they should be looking after a player if something like this happens

Was literally just about to post on the same topic moomoo.I thought Murphy was out of order. He could have at least said something like "you never know what the future holds",but to say theres no way back? Not the type of guy id like to be fighting in the trenches with.I normally cant stand joe brolly, but he wrote a good article on the Mcguinness/cassidy saga on gaelic life.Id recommend people read it(just google it)

ah Moomoo,

There are on average about 300 GPA members dropped from panels each year for various reasons. What the hell do you expect them to do?
