Seen that myself deise. An absolute disgrace if there is any truth in it. McGuiness should hang his head in shame if he has kicked him off the team holiday. gotmilk (Fermanagh) - Posts: 4971 - 13/11/2011 15:00:42 1067991 Link 0 |
Ahh, sure the Dubs wont have to worry about any challengers to our crown next year when we have the oppositions managers winning the AI Final for us!! Snufalufagus (Dublin) - Posts: 8100 - 13/11/2011 15:16:41 1067999 Link 0 |
I thought McGuinness was all about positivity. Theres been nothing positive about his treatment of Cassidy. I havent read what cassidy said, but someone earlier said that the "secrets" he gave away could be found on the training/fitness sections of any Gaa website. This whole episode makes it clear that Mc Guiness and Gallagher are not about Management but about Control. Mc Guiness is more concerned about keeping some air of Mysticsm or some such about Himself and Gallaghers questionable "management" tecniques than about the Donegal Team. I will make this promise now, that, In the event that Derry should ever appoint both or either of them as management I will not attend or comment upon any game they play or win even were it to be the big one. This is no part of the great game I love. Winning IS NOT everything. derryman (Derry) - Posts: 3246 - 13/11/2011 17:29:22 1068087 Link 0 |

If winning is the only thing then there are no rules codes or principles that cannot and will not be broken. I am certainly seeing that creep into the game and it did not start in 2010. However for me( and I do hope many others) Winning is not everything. The game is bigger than the team or the individual and it is my earnest desire that we will have the game after the teams and Individuals are gone. derryman (Derry) - Posts: 3246 - 13/11/2011 18:51:04 1068163 Link 0 |
I think it boils down to a simple fact, the players were asked at the start of last season to sign up to a code of conduct in terms of discipline & confidentiality, namely not going to the media. People can argue if that was an excessive measure by Mc Guinness but it was something that the players signed up to, no one forced them to. This is about the worst aspect of management ever saw in gaa.P galvin has caused endless trouble for kerry management over the years, who missed most of a season he has been involved in ugly incidents but kerry are cute enough to know he has been priceless to them.Owen mullican has also been hard to handle harte drops him but always got the most out of him on his return.GG too fell out with lots of people involved in meath but again they always got the most outa a great player.Their is a loose cannon on each county panel but a great manager has it in control.I detest the way jim made donegal play agret team of talent that people turned against because of the way they destroyed their summer.Dropping cass is a massive mistake it has already split supporters and their is lots of friction amoung players and alot of splits are happening. What has the game came to when players are living in goldfish bowls, what so bad did he do nothing i think.Cass has been a massive player he did,nt shy from shooting when all others were throwing it to each other.Mcguiness will regret this even he does come back and the myth that is jim mcguinness and his thinking is good for donegal football. He will i,ve said ofton leave a trail of destruction behind him. When donegal exit next years championship so does he. mickeylinden (Monaghan) - Posts: 587 - 13/11/2011 20:22:25 1068243 Link 0 |

I wasn't too sure when the story broke initially. Cassidy is entitled to have views such as those expressed about previous manager John Joe Doherty. Also the gutless behaviour of his team-mates and his own clubmate in not showing up for the book launch was a disgrace and surely deeply hurtful for Cassidy. These guys are meant to be his friends and colleagues , guys he has battled with for his county and when it matters most they all go missing. Have they no independant minds of their own ? McGuinness should have dealt with this in-house and moved on. Removing Cassidy from the team holiday is the last straw and shows that maybe Mcguinness is not up to the job when pressure is on. Cassidy is enttitled to have opinions and never levelled personal accustaions at Mcguinness during the course of his piece or done anyting to warrant the attack he has been subjected to. Could the GPA intervene at all on behalf of Cassidy ? philbrown (Westmeath) - Posts: 240 - 13/11/2011 21:44:52 1068343 Link 0 |
Good article in today's Irish News by Paddy Heaney on this. Paddy sets out the background of the book and says that Cassidy's biggest crime was telling the truth and maybe being a wee bit too honest. However he goes on to give some examples of Jim McGuinness's own career when he acted outside his manager's wishes and suggests there is a touch of hypocrisy going on here. A fella who is an All Star, was one of Donegal's best players and who scored a winning wonder point in the quarter final should not be treated like this. Excluding him from the squad trip to the US is shocking altogether; if anyone has the right to be there it's Cassidy. Looks like there's a big split looming in Donegal over this. I can see both sides of the story but I feel Cassidy deserves his holiday and I think it is a bit of a disgrace to treat him so badly. Tom1916 (Armagh) - Posts: 2001 - 15/11/2011 17:12:00 1069496 Link 0 |
