McGuigan and Jordan retire

I said it in jest but are you actually claiming that you would have better utilised Tyrone's players than Mickey Harte? If so I'd make yourself known to the Mayo county board, with that tactical nous the decades of hurt could soon be over. Most of what you have said is completely incorrect but you are unable to admit that, instead trying to bore us into submission. You think McGuigan spent the majority of the time in his own half. That's entirely false but I can't prove it, if you said Mulligan spent the majority of games in his full-back line (it wouldn't surprise me if you did think that) I wouldn't be able to disprove it either. But feel free to repeat this over and over and over again

Again I havent claimed these things at all. You seem to insist on not addressing the points as they are put to you, but rather redefine them and then ridicule what you have redefined. Do you think that consitutes winning an argument? If it does then ridicule away, but I never said I had a better system, or that mickey harte was wrong, or that mcguigan was used the majority of the time in his own half for that matter; basically everything you have claimed in your last post (you dont work for the Sun do you?). I simply said that the system that tyrone employed had the down side of having someone like mcguigan back in his own half defending, which in turn probably denied us, as spectators a few moments of creative excellence. Im not saying tyrone would have been better off doing a or b, im not saying harte made a mistake, or mcguigan couldnt defend, or anything else you are going to attempt to shoe-horn in there. It is simple, the job he was asked to do for the team, probably stiffled his own game a little. Surely that is only common sense. an attacking player asked to fill the role of a defender on occasion is not going to attack as much. For instance, michael murphy for donegal this year, he played a different role and in turn didnt score as much. It was a knock on effect, what is so complex about that?

Alot of people on this forum here the ones that actually know about the game know that tyrones play was not blanket defence i don,t believe they would know what the term meant.Tyrone played the game with a level of intensity never saw before and never will again.Tyrone seldom tackled dirty as a whole they dispossed and broke at speed again never saw before in the game.they broke in numbers then it was a perfect kick pass or get in a position to shoot. In the clip on utube dara goes to shoulder hughes after taking the ball outa the ruck hughes took the hit but dara was knocked back followed by more tackles then kerry dispossed.Tyrone in their prime years scored more quality scores than kerry ever did.Tyrone weren,t a big team but big on heart and commitment.Kerry coun,dt compete with it they had all the stars household names but not a clue how to beat tyrone. Most all irelands will now be won with about 11 points plase lord don,t inflict donegal play on us.Another thing about tyrone they had the greatest ever player in the spot in canavan anyone lucky enough to see this mans skill in his prime were blessed it really is funny when people compere cooper to him but then they probably know no better.Jordan and mcguigan were part of a machine very vital parts

Their performances in 2005 and 2008 were masterful pplocal, and they played some great football, but that youtube clip on your previous post showcased modern day gealic football at its worst

I respect your view my friend i think its a classic piece of tackleing not one foul committed not a false knee or elbow like alot could or would. They showed kerry no respect which most teams made the mistake of doing to their peril.Kerry tactics over the years were of a more sinister nature.

As ThomasClarke said you have the system that Tyrone played completely wrong and videos of Tyrone would support this. It wasn't 12 men in their own half, it was pressing all over. The clip I posted even highlights this, you had half backs deep inside the Kerry half trying to win the ball. So when McGuigan got the ball the vast majority of the time he was in an attacking position where he could dictate play. I don't know how to say it in any simpler terms

MickeyLinden - is spot on here.
Anyone with any knowledge would know hat tyrone 2002 onwards were scoring over twenty points a game.
Why would you be blanket defence oriented with..Canavan, O'Neill, McGuigan, Cavlin, Mulligan, Cavanagh at your disposal.
The discussion and subsequent lazy journalism and punditry is frightening when you consider how many people actually latch on to something regardless of the facts or reality.

Curious as a Monaghan man should you not be Paddy Linden?

True - he was something.

My first few years of watching PC after returning from university in England were of wonderment. Despite my mates telling me about him from minor level I watched him in an U-21 final against Kerry. I actually never seen him miss off either foot for a long time.
Fay Devlin told me years later it was all down to his balnce it was perfect.

Read somewhere this week he is given a shooting coaching session for coaches of all sports in Cookstown shortly. That a session to pay attention to.

12 men behind the ball? Where did I say this? That is 4 times you have tried to put words in my mouth. Is it not possible for you to address the actual post? As for this precious youtube clip, i.e. a montage of things that tyrone done well in the game, it only underlines my point. It shows tyrone players swarming around various kerry players at certain stages of the game. in various parts of the field. Half backs, half forwards, full forwards and midfielders are involved regardless of field position. So if the kerry player is in possession on the opposition 40 isnt it fair to say that the tyrone half forward line, or at least some of them, would be back on their own 40? A simple yes or no will suffice, for once.

So not all the time then? So pretty much exactly what I am saying. Keep going maybe you can say it 10 more ways without admitting the system brought forwards into defence, because clearly that is what it is about for you.

Are you for real? In no sport anywhere in the World will attackers always be in attack. Does Ferguson not utilise Rooney properly because occasionally he'll be in Unted's half? Are the Gooch, Donaghy etc. not utilised properly because occasionally they'll track back and help defend? This is the easily the most ill ignorant and ill-informed argument I've seen on these boards which is really saying something. You're out on your own here TheMaster, if you look over the comments GAA fans from Tyrone and elsewhere are saying you're completely in the wrong. Give it up now because I'm afraid you really are starting to look ridiculous

Great players indeed who will never get the praise and plaudits they deserve because of where they are from; they would have walked on to any of the great sides of the past 30/40 years.

any of you Tyrone heads think any more retirements to come this yr....The hub? Mulligan? Ricey? Enda McGinley? Conor Gormley? Stephen O'Neill? Maybe Harte should look at Fergie's 25 yr reign at United at not being afraid to get rid of the big names and change up the team as we're forever hearing about the Tyrone conveyor belt of talent but no seeing it in the senior team only peter harte and maybe kyle coney. Maybe Harte thinks you'll win nothing with kids

Yes brolly expect a few more over the coming months. In many ways the players are doing Hartes job for him and making the hard decisions. It can work to his advantage as it gives him a blank canvas to work with, time to throw caution to the wind and get those youngsters into the senior ranks, use the next couple of seasons to blood them and then who nkows.
