McGuigan and Jordan retire

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Two great players. Always felt mcguigan never got the praise he deserved. It's not too many lads who take Kieran Mcgeeney for 3 points (i think) in any game but to do it in an all-ireland final in 03 was something else. His ability to bring lads in to play was top class- how he was done out of an all-star in 05 still mystifies me. Dont forget he came back from some horrendous injuries aswell. best of luck to both lads anyway. I loved watching that tyrone team play when they were at their peak- the best example of what the word 'team' really meant.

McGuigan was a fantastic talent. His injuries stiffled his career, which is an awful shame, as I believe he had a type of creative ability that is terribly rare in the modern game. Indeed, tyrone's own style probably limited those talents a little also, but his excellent team ethic and intelligence around the breakdown were more evident in that system, which exhibits how complete a player he was.

Extremely lazy and ignorant analysis of how Tyrone played

I think the true testament to that tyrone team is too here the bitter dubs and kerry men still yapping! How dare us rise to the top of the pile!

Thanks for the memories lads, not a sad day just a day to reflect with a smile!

What with therse two now gone & Dooher etc. retiring (plus I hear there will be a few more before the year is out) I feel Tyrone are a spent force for a few years to come.

Mickey harte should also call it a day with Tyrone. He's been a fantastic manager for the county but with essentially the team he created breaking up he should go too & let a fresh face take up the job. I'm sure there are plenty of counties that would be eager to have Harte on board so he would not be lost to football.

Well done to Tyrone for their great years & for coming so close to eclipsing Kerry as the team of the decade.

I feel Hub, Ricey ,McGinley and Mugsy will also all call it a day ,another year in division two could be a blessing for Tyrone this year blood 6 more youngsters with games against Derry and Kildare will make or break them . Total Faith ..

Ah Dingle..that old chestnut was sorted..was it not? Played 3 Won 3 Lost none - two AI finals and one semi-final.
Each time we were told "not today boys"...2008 was funniest - mayo man turns to Kerry man "3 in a row?"....kerryman "yeah yeah three in a row"...Tyrone fans some strangers exchanged knowing glances.

Still to this day the Wee (Or "Small little bit" as you say in Munster) county rangles deep in the Kerry psyche...legends scarred for life..fans traumitised, more bitter than a DUP convention with a mouthfiul of lemons.
We will remember your greats and give them their due and place in history as for ours? Well leave that to Tyrone fans and more objective football fans throughout Ireland.

BTW Hows the love affair with Mayo going? strength to strength I'd say accomodating again this year.

2 aboslute greats. These lads have dedicated the last 15 years of their life to the GAA and provided entertainment up and down the country. What a pity some of the posters on here cannot show a bit of class and give the lads the respect that they deserve.

If it was boxing then as heavyweights you've taken some beatings by lightweights the other years.
Shouldn't happen.

Two fantastic players for Tyrone. How McGuigan did not win an All-Star in 2005 and was not voted man of the match in the 2005 All-Ireland final is beyond me. Jordan was 8/10 every time.

Two class players no doubt. Great servants to the Tyrone cause. Best wishes to them on their retirement.

As a lightweight think we knocked "The Greatest" out a few times.
As you know 2004 was followed by a horrendous spate of injuries to most of the squad in the "Lean years" 2006 and 2007.

You would think a great team like Tyrone would have plenty of players to have in back up?

Time will tell , Time will tell

Certainly we won't see the like of these boys who we are paying tribute to (Well some of us)
Are we great? I don't think most Tyrone people consider ourselves great but we aspire to be and we are learning from you boys all the time.
Just some things from you we'll avoid remembering....

no bitter dubs on here. nearly all dubs wished them well. For giving so much for their county in a period of winning 3 all irelands is a brilliant achievement.
