The awards are sponsered by Opel. Opel have paid each award winner,( including the weaker hurling winners before anyone starts slabbering about that), for use of their image.

This is not a payment for winning an award it is a payment for allowing Opel to use their image when they are advertising. The player of the year winners will obviously be used more so therfore paid more.

This was one of the big bug bears over the years when it come to players image rights.

Why should every Tom Dick and Harry be able to make money by using a players photo without paying the player first?

The money is not an award for playing, it is a payment for services.

Do not see what people problem understand this is ? The money was a prize, it wasnt given because they have a contract of employment.. IT WAS A PRIZE
