The Hard men of the GAA

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I remember that game like yesterday. Its hard to believe that was twenty years ago. Typical Louth. Should have won the first game, Stefan White missed a penno in the replay and lost that game by 8 points.

What a silly thread "hard men" its easy to be a hard man on the pitch with a ref a spectators ......Are we running out of the best of topics? Best back, best forward ,tallest u21 !!!! Can we please have some mature debate about our games? Im sure there are far more pressing issues that need teasing out but the site has been going downhill rapidly as of late.

Eoin O'Gara is a hard *******, men just bounce off that fella and looks like he could just about hammer the head off every player on the opposition.

David Brady and Colm Mac was unreal. Good man Ulsterman, love seeing a county with no success whatsoever having a go at Mayo. All the hard men of Tipp in 89 Ulsterman, they were tough that day.

Horsebox77,

Yes, its the same Mick Holden an AI winner as one of the '12 apostles' (the real hardest men ever to play Gaelic football), came from the Cuala club (won senior county hurling title with them and his two brothers) and was a dual player and even won a railway cup in both football and hurling (which he perfered) but I cant remember the years of those, but shows how good a GAA man he was. He also represented Ireland playing compromise rules games.
Sadly Mick passed away 4 years ago.
He was loved by all in Dublin and further afield too!

Hard and fair? Not too many that I have seen listed so far would qualify. Seamus Moynihan would be my no. 1 , played it like a man and never struck a dirty blow.

1054251 Saw a thread like this over on gaaboard.com, so thought it would be a good idea to see who the posters on hoganstand would rate as the hard men of the GAA.

Looking for the type of people, who literally would take any blow and play on, would have no problem levelling fella's who were out of line and lads who literally would run through walls for the good of a team.

Idiots, basically?

Jinxy,

Of course the place was buzzing when the Dublin threads were on the go, sure the GAA is a 'nothing organisation' without us! We are its masters!!.....we are all this board ever want to talk about! We are the masters of all men!!............(and the leaders of all men in all rebellions!).

You loved my thread titled "The greatest story ever told!.....Lest we forget!" where the slaggin came "Full Circle" for manys the mad mullah but alas, the admins found that the country wasnt able to handle the 'shock and awe' single handedly dished out by Ol Snuffy and shut it down, to spare the blushes of the country folk!!

Some day, they will be made reap what they sow!!......Im not gone away you know!!!!

Lads u remember back in 91 there was a mill up between louth n laois, some bald head fella for louth battered half the laois team unbelievable punches from him. Can anyone remember his name?

Had the pleasure of meeting up with Kevin O'Hanlon when he was stationed out in the Middle East 10 years ago and he recounted the whole story to me. He also told me of another rumble he had in the Louth Senior Final v Stabannon Parnells. A man of steel that you would not like to be hit by.
