Realdub meath only became hardmen after mullins retired , when he was playing the meath boys were like little mice around him.

Mullins was as hard as hell but if you check back on the Leinster finals or meetings with Meath in general during Brian's career you'll find they were close encounters!

Kevin o Hanlon, he boxed for the army I believe ,and boy he could box.
He got 12 months for that I think and Louth & Laois were both fined 5k which in 91 was some fine.
That row is up on YouTube somewhere!

For Kerry hard men of the 70's and 80's Paidí, Horse, Johnno but the hardest of all was Jimmy Deenihan, just ask JB Murphy or Denie Allen from Cork, after that you'd Liam Flah and Eamon Breen, nowadays the hard man image is gone cos of CCCC etc, still alive and well at club footbal even more so at Junior B. Have always had a grá for Meath Football even though I a true kerryman always had time for Mick Lyons and Liam Harnan but the man I admired most of all was Colm Coyle... a nutter but with a savage football ability and football brain

Yes it was indeed, he was a tough boyo alright, knew how to box.
Scattered a few and nobody could get near him!

Ciaran Duff? You cannot be serious. Dirty yes, hard no. You never saw Mick Lyons, Eamonn Heary, Brian Mullins or Pat Byrne kick on a fella on the head on the ground. They did their talking with their fists/elbows.

From my own county Glenn Ryan and Davy Dalton was as tough as boots.

a fair few boys who played senior football in Tyrone between 1996-2004 and London 2004-2010 would have taken a belt or two off me. There was one Antrim/Down lad, originally a hurler, not sure in London football who was probably my main rival in the hardness stakes

Denihan wasn't a hard man by any stretch of the imagination, all he did was pull & drag off the ball. Lyons was tough as teak but as I said in earlier post there was a guy operating circa 67 who would be before most of y'ere time called Red Collier, jaysus but he was tough.

As already mentioned, first cousins Mick Lyons and Liam Harnan for Meath. If you got by Liam Harnan you had Mick Lyons upon you.

Pundit2, is he one of the O'Hanlon's from Clann na gael? Seamus O'Hanlon was a fantastic footballer, great service to Louth and he represented Leinster aswell.

Gerry McEntee was another, if he layed you in a bad state he would tend you after the game!

Mick Lyons was hard as nails but I don't think he was a good fighter.
