Harty Cup final goes head-to-head with Tipp v Kilkenny 16 February 2012
The Harty Cup final between Nenagh CBS and Colaiste na Deise will clash with Tipperary's glamour Allianz Hurling League opener against Kilkenny on Sunday week, February 26.
Munster Colleges officials have no plans to change the date of their showpiece game, meaning hurling fans in North Tipperary must decide between attending the colleges final in Cashel or the repeat of last year's All-Ireland final in Nowlan Park. Both games will throw-in at 2.30pm.
"We put dates on all our games way back last June when the draws are made," Munster Colleges Council servicing officer Tom Collum said in the Irish Examiner.
"We take our chances then with National League games. We have changed to a Saturday in the past but we prefer to play on a Sunday as people have a better chance of being off work to see the game. The fact that Waterford are playing Cork on that Saturday night is a problem.
"If you're going to a 2.30pm game in Cashel, I don't think it's suitable then to head for a 7pm throw-in in Cork. We'd love to accommodate everyone but with the two counties involved, Waterford and Tipperary, we have a problem given the start of the National League.
"Both schools, Colaiste na Deise and Nenagh CBS, understand the situation and they see the difficulty that we are in."
