1049820 Mate you can say mass for all I care it won't change the fact that Joe mcmahon wouldn't lace Sean cavanagh boots. I wouldn't mind the last two years Bernard brogan has absolutely destroyed Joe mcmahon. Ask any other county what tyrone player they fear most and I'm convince 95 per cent will say Sean cavanagh. I can't believe I'm still talking about this when everyone knows who the better player is.

So Bernard Brogan gets the better of a makeshift full back twice and this somehow makes Sean Cavanagh who Joe has marked out of the ground on their last two match ups a better player? As regards your fact, it is only an opinion, not fact.

I def understand why he is saying that because Joe has skills that Sean cant match. Joe is a more natural footballer. He can read the game very well, has great vision and passing skills. Sean is more of a power runner but lacks some of the subleties of the game. Joe has struggled a bit with injuries throughout his career and his skills are wasted at full-back. In that sense Sean has def had more of an impact for Tyrone and when he plays well....people remember those games, whereas Joe's contribution is usually harder to spot in a more unselfish way.

In soccer terms its like comparing Scholes with Gerrard. Scholes is a great technical player and passer of the ball. Gerrard is more of a 'take the game by the scruff of the neck' player and leads the charge. I would always prefer a Scholes-like player so I know where he is coming from

1049858 I watch Sean play at least a dozen times a year and see him outside of the county set up the same with McMahon and I know who I would have first on the team sheet.

There's no doubt that Sean Cavanagh has left a greater legacy within Tyrone GAA than either of the McMahons. And unfortunetely for you Omaghredhand, there can be no denying that. The Gaelic Football fans across Ireland will remember Cavanagh as one of the icons of Tyrone GAA 2002-2011. They will remember the McMahons as very good players but they will be well down the list - behind McMenamin, Gormely, Jordan, O'Neill, Canavan, Cavlan, Mulligan, McGuigan and Cavanagh.

Now admittedly, Cavanagh's form dipped after his heroics in 2008 and I would even say that both McMahons were Tyrone's best performers in the years since and if that's the argument you are making, then I would have no problem agreeing. But I think you are saying that Joe McMahon has made a bigger contribution to Tyrone than Cavanagh? And this is simply not true.

I'd also argue that Cavanagh has been one of the most adaptable players in terms of playing position - ever! The idea that he lacks the versatility of McMahon is extremely harsh.

Probably the best response yet. I am not arguing about the greater legacy Loyal, merely that I think technically that Joe is a better all round player, i.e. he has a greater skill set. Joe McMahon is a legend in Tyrone throughout the county and he is held in as high esteem as any of those you have mentioned bar Canavan. Maybe people from outside of Ulster who only get a chance to watch these boys 2-3 times a year at most may have different views, I don't know. By your own statement since 08 Sean has been decidedly off his best and when he is off it he is really of it. My main point is that McMahon is consistently good. In 2005 when Dublin had begun to turn the screw, McMahon was the player moved on to Ciarán Whelan and stemmed the flow when all others had failed. In 2008 McMahon was the man brought out of the forward line to help deal with the twin towers. How many others would have that versatility? So has he made a bigger contribution than Cavanagh to Tyrone, possibly not but then again forwards are always remembered but that was not the question.

With regards to Seans versatility, midfield half forward, full forward? Joe, Full forward, half forward, midfield, half back and full back and virtually everywhere in between

Must do given that you can decide as fact who is the better Tyrone footballer having only watched them a couple of times a year.
