My question was a simple question pertaining to the eligibility to vote,to which I am sure there is a fairly simple set of answers. That you feel the need to answer with your own questions about me does not answer the one I posed to anybody on the forum. seanie_boy (Tyrone) - Posts: 4235 - 20/09/2011 10:48:40 1038538 Link 0 |
So was Mary McAleese living in ROI when she was a candidate? and was she able to vote for herself?? We'd look silly as a country if our presidential candidates couldn't vote for themselves because they're not eligable to and then they go on to win the election and actually become the presedent!! "This is a very important Question from Fintan O'Toole in the Irish times" War crimes LOL - Fintan O'Toole is a BOF. Can't wait to vote for Martin - I hope the media rachet up the hysteria waving the usual skeltons real or imagined and he'll be swept into the Aras on a wave of BS. So he's good enough to shake hands with Mandela/Paisley et all but not good enough for the sensibilites of the national media - sounds good enough for me. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4954 - 20/09/2011 12:18:09 1038672 Link 0 |

Martin Mc Guinness has come in for an awful lot a stick from the Media and the usual Unionist Hardliners about his past and his role as CO of the Derry IRA in the early seventys I thought Danny Morrison put it well on good morning Ulster when asked about Mc Guinness he said it wasn't McGuinness that started the Troubles but it was the Troubles that started McGuinness in simple terms there was 50 odd years of misrule and another 40 years conflict and military oppression , which the Unionists don't want to here banging on and on about so many members of the Unionist community killed during the troubles , I'm not one for bringing up the past but having to learn the lesson from the past, but the Unionists community don't seem to want to move on from the past, I have learned from the past and Sinn Fein seemed to have learned from the past when they realised that violence will not succeed and went do the road of peace as have many other leading members of other parties i.e. David Irvine who is similar to McGuinness in how the Troubles found him if he was alive today I would have no problem with him becoming first minster . There are many good Unionist politicians up there in the House on the hill who do a good job but still find it hard to get past the point that they blame the troubles on the Republicans and that they have suffered more than me or my family. Now I'm no shinner or Republican but do people especially those who claim to be God fearing Christians not know the meaning of FORGIVENESS . Martin McGuinness would make an excellent President of Ireland . p.s. he just needs to improve his Irish language a tad!... Of course we can't vote, why on Earth would we be able to vote in an election in a different country. Maybe we should be able to vote in American elections as well for the craic pplocal (Tyrone) - Posts: 5878 - 20/09/2011 14:04:44 1038831 Link 0 |

The Republic of Ireland needs a President for all the people. Not ones who go sprouting derogatory and in my view racist terms in the media. paddyogall (Mayo) - Posts: 5110 - 20/09/2011 14:37:02 1038871 Link 0 |
He stated he would not meet the Queen in May because the time was not right. Some of his supporters go on about forgiveness yet he refused to meet the Queen? jonny1951 (Mayo) - Posts: 1431 - 20/09/2011 14:48:58 1038886 Link 0 |
