Is that the best answer you can think of. I am looking forward to Martin Mc Guiness and Sinn Fein move Ireland forward to where we are a NATION ONE AGAIN it is unstoppable.

I agree, I think it is inevitable. We certainly won't be around to see it though. You were born British, you will die British. Of that there is no doubt

What is your problem? Derryman and many of us on here do not need the "booklet" or a piece of paper issued by any government, or other entity to tell us who we are.Are you going to insist that De Valera was not Irish as well? Stop being so ridiculous, even though I might make an exception today as you are probably in mourning with the passing of Gusty Spence as you are clearly more a part of his community than any other community on this island.

PP I am not your friend. Could never ever be a friend to you . An act of parliament imposed upon me by force of arms will not make me what I am not either. I am an Irishman who by force of arms has been made subject of Britain you can be what you want I am Irish.

An act of a foreign parliament imposed by force of arms wil???? I am what I am Irish and proud of it. There are 3 nationalities on the Island of Britain Irish is not one of them. You may however feel free to call me a British subject Subjugation is what Britain was good at.

seanie boy i wouldnt even mention gusty spence to pp. sure didnt the founder of modern day loyalism have the intelligence to recognise that he himself was irish. he never questioned the fact. spoke the language and studied the history whilst imprisoned. it cannot be ignored that there are people in derry, armagh, down, fermanagh, antrim and down who class themselves as british, but there is no british nationality, you have scottish, welsh, english and some irish who all fall under the british umbrella but even those irish in that group are still irish. pp is on a wumming mission here, dont take the bait

If we look at some of the posts on here then I would think Martin should stay where he is! It seems that communities are still very much divided.

'but there is no british nationality,'

Yes there is. You should know because you are British yourself. We were born in the UK, you can claim that we born in an occupied land blah blah blah but there's no disputing that we in Northern Ireland were born in the UK. Hence we are British as citizens of the UK (which we are) are British. Simple as that really

There is a difference between citizenship and nationality, it's not valid to equate the two. It's interesting that the UK refuse to acknowledge Irish citizens in the ROI as foreign nationals for instance. It's best not to worry too much about legal or constitutional issues, I for one don't need a passport or constitutional amendments to confirm my nationality. Anyway, let's hope that Norris gets his required nominations for the Presidential race.

People from Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom, are British citizens. They are also entitled to Irish citizenship by birth under the 1998 Belfast Agreement between the British and Irish governments, which provides that: it is the birthright of all the people of Northern Ireland to identify themselves and be accepted as Irish or British, or both, as they may so choose, and accordingly [the two governments] confirm that their right to hold both British and Irish citizenship is accepted by both Governments and would not be affected by any future change in the status of Northern Ireland.

That is the de facto legal status if you are born in Northenr Ireland you can be British, Irish or Northern Irish.

This exercise is a step towards unity. It is easy to say that those one up there are divided when the fact is that Those one down there are even more divided where they have been physically seperated and do not have to deal with any of the issues of division or unity. I suppose had I been born in Mayo and lived in freedom I might see things differently too. There but for the grace of God go I

Lots of mudslinging from the media to McGuinness in recent days, we've also seen relatives of victims come forward and break their silence about their thoughts on SF and the IRA.

Yeah expect lots of families of the victims of the troubles to be cynically used by the media over the next few weeks, then when the media's agenda has been achieved they'll once again be ignored.

Derryman there will never be a United Ireland, a push for it would lead us back into the dark days of violence, that is a sad fact. And how exactly would this be a step towards unity? His job in the north was a step towards unity and in my eyes he is leaving a job where is work is not yet done.
