The majority of people who sing A na B dont have a clue what it means, they have no idea what their singing about.Mainly because its in our native language which they dont understand.

Come back and complain when everyone understands it!

Lads, Irelands call is durge (mind u so is (A-NA-BFH) but look read this next point and say it until it sinks in

A-n-b is the anthem of the REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

The Rugby team is NOT a team from the ROI, its a 32 county team.

Its not a popular POV but thats the truth. A.N.B is not the anthem of Stephen Ferris so why should he play under it

A-N-B is the anthem of the Republic, The Rugby team is NOT a ROI team

Its really quite simple.

Aside from that atall, its a dreadful dreadful song. They both are!!

I assume A.N B. is our national anthem. Why do they play it in Lansdowne road if it is such a problem?

RKF, The reason its played in LR is because LR is in the Republic. The ROI is hosting the game so they play the anthem of the ROI. When the team is abroad, the game is played on foreign soil, and the team playing are not representing the ROI they are representing 32 county island of Ireland , encompassing both traditions and as I said ANB is NOT the anthem of the island, its the anthem of the 26 county ROI. I realise the nationalist pop in the north recognise ANB as their anthem and they have every right to and are proud to do so. But the fact remains, ANB is the anthem of a soverign 26 county Republic and the Rugby team is not a team representing that country

It would be the exact same as if there was a GB Rugby team and they played Flower of Scotland/GSTQ as their anthem.

We do, its the Ireland team. Its just not the Republic of Ireland team......
Do you think 32 county teams are a bad idea RKF?
If you think they are a good idea, do you think then that the nationality of the minority should just be ignored and pissed on as a result?

Your a long term quality poster in here RKF, you know whats up.

This team works and it's great that people from different backgrounds can come together to share the same goal. What's the alternative, a ROI and N.I. team? You can have your flag and anthem but no Ferris, Best, Court etc.? I know what I'd rather have

this is the right decision. the irfu is full of mature reasonable people, people here are just spouting their own political hatred and bias. like it or lump it but 100% factually and legally true is that there are two seperate countries on this island- the irfu represents both equally and does not show favouritism and they should be commended for this. this is ireland not the republic of ireland.

How is this thread even still alive, are people really that shallow that a simple song before a game matters so much to them?

Amhran na bhfiann is not the national anthem of players like Rory Best, Andrew Trimble, Paddy Wallace etc etc so why should those lads be expected to stand for it? As far as I'm concerned they should never play Amhran na bhfiann home or away and there shouldn't be a tri-colour in sight either because again it doesn't represent every single person on this Island (personally I think the orange should suffice but history dictates).

Anyway theres plenty of rugby on over the next few weeks so can we please just focus on that or would people still rather talk trash about a pointless issue?

Well most Rugby fans would disagree with you on that count, it's not worth splitting a team that works on the basis of a bit of cloth and a 2 minute song

i hate to burst your bubble folks but Ireland Call is also used by the irish hockey teams, irish crickets teams, irish rugby league team, and Irish A1 motor racing team- and correctly so, as its safe to say its now the anthem of ireland for all people on this island. I applaud all the organisation who have took this momentous step

Just so everyone knows the words to the new anthem for the island of ireland
Come the day and come the hour
Come the power and the glory
We have come to answer our country's call
From the four proud provinces of Ireland

Ireland, Ireland
Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Ireland's call

From the mighty glens of Antrim
From the rugged hills of Galway
From the walls of Limerick and Dublin Bay
From the four proud provinces of Ireland

Hearts of steel and heads unbowing
Vowing never to be broken
We will fight until we can fight no more
For the four proud provinces of Ireland

Erin's warriors, clad in emerald
Steadfast souls confront their challenge
'Neath the glass sky they assemble
For the four proud provinces of Ireland

Also from your post Liam it seems that I am a lesser person for expressing my opinion. I thought you were better than that.
