Sorry about being repetitive but definately Derry v Down 1994.

If there was a back door then both these teams would have won more All Irelands!!

Jimbo what sticks in my mind about the whole incident is when Dublin came out to warm up the words DUMMYS and OUT OF PRAM spring to mind.

i cant belive people are staying this was a good game it was a terrible game- it went to the wore alright but it was dreadfully poor and then the two managers equally acting like complete babies before and after the game suggests that i wouldnt wish either team any luck

Considering that the present Kerry and Cork (blip on Sunday) are probably the two greatest teams of all time along with Tyrone I would say it has to be one of the epics from the Munster Championship that the Dublin or Northern media fails to give enough credit to.
Other notable mentions include;

Kerry v Galway Qtr Final (skill level unreal from an attacking point of view)
Derry v Down 1994 (intensity and man to man battles were brilliant)
Kildare v Meath 1997 (the man on man battles - see kildare half back line v Meath half forward line = 10+ all stars between them and Buckley and McDermott in the middle)
Dublin V Mayo 2006 (Ciaran McDonalds point and Mayo's comeback)
Tyrone v Armagh 2005 (Defensive play and intensity was at a whole new level and these two teams changed football for ever)
Kildare v Donegal (tactical battle and Croke Park went into a frenzy I have never witnessed in my 20 years going there)

Special mention to the 1977 Kerry v Dublin game - all of the above teams mentioned would hammer the lick of them full stop - awful standard - thank God for All Ireland Gold.

agreeing woth a previous poster but at the same time being a little bias, but Kerry and Galway in 2008 was one of the most incredible matches i'v ever been at. for anyone that was at the game, they'll understand how unbelievable it was. played out in the p***ng rain from start to finish and by the time the second half had begun, the floodlights were on. and yet the two teams managed to notch up 2-37 between them. the only thing missing from the match was extra time, followed by a galway win ;) but as we know now, galway can't win games in croke park ;)

The Roscommon v leitrim game from this year was unreal, the level of intensity, the skill level shown by Roscommon in particular was up there with the best i've seen in a long long time and don't forget Ross had just come from a defeat in the big league final.

I hope Sennan and the Donnie get all stars.

Cant see Donie getting an All-Star this year.
That said, there hasn't really been a stand out forward so far in the championship.

Anyway, whats this thread? Oh yeah, best intercounty match ever. Mayo & Dublin in '06 was great for pure excitement. I cant think of great games off the top of my head. I'd have to really sit down and think about that one....

I think 51longago was being sarcastic. He's one of a number of posters who simply can't comprehend the intention of the thread.

Mayo Dublin 2006 was a remarkable game of football

Mayo Galway in Tuam 1999 Connacht Final is one of my personal faves.

Mayo Cork right up there for me too

I'd have to agree with some of the previous poster. I was at the Derry v Down game in '94 and it was a fantastic game of football from two excellent teams.
Another game I attended worth a mention would be the Tyrone v Dublin game when Mugsy scored that goal was also a great game.
From a Donegal slant the quarter final replay against Galway was one the best quality donegal games I attended as was the drawn quarter final game against the Dubs when Adrian sweeney scored a late equaliser (we'll not mention the replay) but for utter heart attack stuff it had to be last weekend v Kildare.

People will always disagree as they may view their own counties games as the best ever.

Mayo v Dublin 2006 is right up there for excitment but quality wise there were many mistakes on both sides (not the mayo people care). McDonalds point at the end was unreal but people forget he scored and equally good one in the first half way out under the cusack from a sideline ball.

Galway v Kildare in 1998 was a great game also
