With such an exciting finish to the Donegal v Kildare game it just got me thinking what was the best match in the history of the GAA? whitegoodman (Tyrone) - Posts: 439 - 01/08/2011 15:52:16 1000686 Link 0 |
Depends how you define "best". If you mean quality wise then certainly not. For excitement and tension and desire and commitment it was right up there benjyyy (Donegal) - Posts: 1432 - 01/08/2011 16:11:01 1000723 Link 0 |

Exciting perhaps, but the standard of football was quite low, the strategy of both teams was to stop the other team playing and the supporters of teams will admit that. It was a good nail biting contest but don't kid yourself into thinking it was anything other than that. Fr.Ted.Crilly (Derry) - Posts: 449 - 01/08/2011 16:14:31 1000729 Link 0 |

No matter what game you can pull out of your hat the best game was by far the DOWN v DERRY Ulster Championship game 1994. Derry where All Ireland Champions going into the match. Look it up on You Tube if you want to know what I am talking about. boozehell (Down) - Posts: 39 - 01/08/2011 16:18:11 1000736 Link 0 |
From my own experience in terms of both quality and excitement tyrone dublin drawn game in 2005 was great as was 2005 final. Mayo dublin in 2006 was also a great match i think. Perhaps also armagh dublin in 2002 semi galballygael23 (Tyrone) - Posts: 235 - 01/08/2011 16:19:46 1000738 Link 0 |
The Derry v Down classic in Celtic Park Derry 1994 has been rightly acknowledged as one of the greatest games of football ever played. Two great teams going hell for leather with no back door. The game had everything with some of the best defenders, midfielders and forwards of the modern game. ballybannongael (Down) - Posts: 547 - 01/08/2011 16:20:03 1000739 Link 0 |

Very hard to say which the greatest inter county match was - everyone tells me Dublin v Kerry in 1977, but I wasn't around back then so it's hard to judge. But I'll mention three games I thought were tense, exciting, and high on quality. Ballboy (Dublin) - Posts: 88 - 01/08/2011 16:48:26 1000771 Link 0 |

In my own opinion it has to be the day tom brewster put the ball over the bar to put all ireland favourites armagh out of the championship at the quarter final stage. It was the best feeling ive ever had watching a game of football. gotmilk (Fermanagh) - Posts: 4971 - 01/08/2011 17:07:17 1000791 Link 0 |
