Listen. This is the dubs playing. You buy your ticket and jump on the ride. You know its going to be a roller coaster but the one sure thing you know is that nobody knows what lies ahead. As a dubs fan you know at some stage you will be peeping through your fingers in fear and recent history would show that you should probably not even peep....but.....you've started so you'll finish. You know that some day it will all come together and yet again you hope that this is it. Maybe it is....but...

I was in the upper Cusack in 83 when we beat Derry in the minors and the famous 12 apostles beat Galway in the seniors when Barney scored the best goal ever seen at an AI Final into the Hill. Do you remember that one yourself?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not quite as you remember it Joxer, as it was actually Derry who won the minors that day but, similarly to your McLoughlin fable, why let the facts get in the way of a good yarn?

So they were. I forgot it was 82 and 84 that we won it. In the final 3 years in a row. I suppose I can still hold my hand up and say that I was there. Although I was only a nipper I remember it being another great occassion to be a dub with a 21st title for the seniors. Great days in blue. Let's hope we get the same again Saturday.

Up the Jackeens!

Sorry Joxer, yet another made up fact. Derry beat Cork in that final, and Dublin weren't even the Leinster champions in 1983, so no idea where you got '3 finals in a row from'.

Talking about '3 in a row', that is 3 successive posts now where you are peddling nonsense as fact. Getting embarrassing at this stage.

We did win it in 82 & 84 but if memory doesn't fail me, Derry bet Cork in 83 to win the minors (did enjoy the seniors though!)

Very very excited about tomorrow now. Have class seats right in the centre of the lower Hogan. Glad to see Mugsy starting, had a wee notion Mickey was going to do this.

Ah Thomas, I actually bothered looking up the 95 incident as I was sure it was a pickup and not for playing the ball on the ground. The match report below seems to confirm this but hey, don't let the facts get in the way of a good yarn. I also believe that he passed to McLoughlin at which stage the ref blew after he pointed. So maybe I wasn't that far off afterall. It was only 16 years ago from memory. Will have to start looking up wikipedia like yourself in future.

You tell him Joxer! Except, it wasn't McLoughlin who was blown for the foul, it was Canavan. And it was for playing the ball on the ground, not picking it up. So wrong player, and wrong offence. Tell me Joxer, did you ever actually see the incident that you speak so adamantly about?

"The 1995 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was won by Dublin in a final that was contested with Tyrone. The final was played at Croke Park with a packed attendance of 65,983. The final finished on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-12 in Dublin's favour. There was controversy towards the end when Peter Canavan was adjudged to have picked the ball off the ground illegally before passing to a team-mate for an equalising point. The free against Tyrone, denied a potential replay and was a talking point for many years in the county until their eventual triumph in 2003"

Just seen Dublins Mid-Field for tomor night and i fear the worst for them. I can only see this going one way unless Dublin have something up their sleeves for the kick outs. Tyrone are coming into form at the right time and i think its their destiny to win SAM this year.
Their wont be a dry eye in Tyrone and the rest of Ireland when they will take SAM back come the 2nd last sunday in september.

Anyone who has watched Tyrone in the last few games could have predicted Mickey's selection. The 15 named make sense. Ricey has been taken off in the last 2 games and, although not playing poorly, he probably doesn't offer as much as Justy McMahon at this stage in his career. The pace that Swift and Sean O'Neill bring to the side means that they too are more important than Ricey in the overall scheme of things.

Tommy McGuigan has had 2 disappointing games and Coney, although he did some very good things against Roscommon, may not be considered as having the big game temperament that Mugsy has. A fit Penrose is always going to be on Mickey's first 15.

The Tyrone subs, of course, will not be as named. I'd guess the 11 will be: Devine, McCarron, Ricey, Carlin, Davy Harte, Cassidy, McGinley, Dooher, O'Neill, Tommy McGuigan, Coney. Not a bad bench to call on, although I'm not convined that O'Neill is fit to play.

As for Dublin, O'Gara was instrumental in Dublin's win over Tyrone last year, putting huge pressure on Justy McMahon as he tried to come out of defence, so it is possible that Gilroy really wants him to play. However, more likely is that this is a red herring, with the likes of Barry Cahill or even David Henry possibly coming in instead to play as an extra defender. The only other change Dublin might make could be Michael Dara McAuley into midfield.

seanie_boy.tyrone.
yes seanie tir eoghain abu is right , its going to be a cracker , what you have said about mickey harte is correct they are blending lovely and have the strengh and depth for taking on any side , anyway i really find it unbelieveable how posters would come on and say this is a end of a era for tyrone , believe me tyrone g.a.a could not be in a better place , they are not many counties that have the infrastructure that tyrone have in nuturing youth sides and bringing them on to senior level we have the garvaghy project in full swing and honestly tyrone will be a force in gaelic football for a long time to come .

P.S A WORD TO ALL THE DUB FANS OUT THERE , MAY WE HAVE A GREAT GAME SATURDAY AND WHOEVER WINS GOOD LUCK AND ALL THE BEST TO THE DUB GAELS OK . BEST WISHES . TIR EOGHAIN ABU .

Ah bless, now Joxer is quoting from a match report that also mentions the 2003 final, meaning that your 'match report' was written at least 8 years after the incident took place. Look at it on youtube Joxer - the foul was for playing the ball on the ground, not for a pick-up. Id've thought after all your inaccuracies you'd be a bit sheepish, but obviously not. And the reason I knew you were wrong about beating Derry in 1983, was because I was at the game that you actually did beat them in - the 1984 minor semi final. Nothing to do with wikipedia.

Anyway, all in the past, and good luck on Saturday. Should be a great occasion.

Just an observation I made. The pre-match giddiness of many Dublin posters mirrors that of 2008 and 2009. A kind of erring confidence. I get the feeling this bold fortitude is shared elsewhere. Now if I recall the Tyrone game last year, things were more much downbeat and I think Dublin approached the game more cautiously. I wonder will it all get too much for fans, players, media and management once again?

Jyazus Thomas I didn't think they had those referee mics in 1995!! :) Seeing as though I haven't seen the incident in 16 years, was it McLoughlin who pointed and was blown up in possession?? I thought it was but like you say the gargle it dims me brain. Incidentally I was in the upper Cusask in 84 also for that bad beating by Kerry. Those were the days.

Best of luck tomorrow. Up the Dubs!
