Unionist MLA insults Tyrone GAA fans

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The DUP's Ian McCrea has come in for stinging criticism after he expressed his delight that Tyrone, which forms part of his constituency, were beaten in yesterday's Ulster SFC semi-final.

McCrea is an MLA for Mid Ulster, which includes large parts Tyrone and Derry.

In the aftermath of yesterday's game at Clones he took to twitter and posted that he was glad that Tyrone has been defeated: "Great to see Tyrone beat in the Ulster semi's today hope Donegal beat Londonderry in the final to keep the celebrations out of Mid Ulster."

That tweet drew a number of angry replies with McCrea then trying to say that he didn't want to see local GAA teams being successful, as it only led to civic receptions being paid for out of local government money, which he deemed a 'waste'.

"As thousands of pounds of public money has been wasted on receptions for Tyrone I think I have a right to express my view," said McCrea in response to those who hit out at his statement.

Sounds like blatant bigotry to me, I wonder would he be kicking up if his local soccer or rugby club were doing well?

Do you think he got mixed up when London beat Fermanagh and he now thinks that London play Derry in the other semi final for the right to meet Donegal? Other than that I don't remember the last time Tyrone had a civic reception for winning an Ulster title.

From the mouth of the man who thinks that a 17 year old Catholic signing for a soccer team in Scotland is newsworthy. Give me strength

A fellow "Gael" signed for Rangers. I think it was the Belfast Telegraph who called him a Catholic. Much ado about nothing except for Ultra nationalists having something to whinge about. Then they accuse others of being WUMS!

A far more relevent thread than the majority of the puke you put on this site. You have to be in the top 3 most unpopular posters on this site.

Paddyogall and mcrea show a similar wavelength which is interesting.

Anyways - i created a thread on the main gaa page there about this topic - think it fits in on the main page... Its horrible and disgusting and will be hopefully condemned by his leader.

--------

I think anyone who uses the word "puff" as a derogatory term could do very well in the bigot brigade themselves. Its 2011.

As for this Ian McCrea dinosaur, its sad to see such petty and unnecessary comments from someone in his position in this day and age, seems to go against what most people in both communities are striving for. But its his own party that will ultimately suffer for it, as young people in his community eventually become embarrassed by that kind of childish bluster and look for alternatives.

I thought the MODS were going to clean up this site by removing WUMS like galling and his alter egos. Go on surprise me, a DUP man insults the GAA and people are surprised and offended?? Next thing you will be telling us the sky is blue and the moon is made of cheese. Wait for Croke Park's reply, they will fawn over this guy, issue invites left, right and centre and fall over themselves in brown nosing embarrassment while ignoring Ulster Gaels as usual.

You need to vote Sinn Fein to get a civic reception. They run the place now.

You did know that, didn't you?

I wont get into a fight with you on this one Ulsterman, in fact I have changed my stance a bit on this issue and I agree with you. Public representatives whether that be elected or in the civil service should not be making secterian commnets on social media outlets such as twitter. People such as McCrea and others in the public sector are paid by the British exchequer to administer British rule in a nuetral fashion.

Why did you feel that it needed discussing then? Sure there is lads signing for soccer clubs all over the place having previously and continuing to play GAA and no threads about them. For the record I don't believe I called you a WUM. Many things probably but a WUM, no.

No surprise there at all !!

Is it any wonder that there's attacks on Orange Halls and GAA Clubs with public representatives coming out with such inflammatory remarks especially coming into the silly season July I think TWITTER is the right place for this little round man, well at least the first four letters of the social network site.
