This, I think has the makings of a cracker. Clare will be very reliant on the start they get and the overall pace of the game. It could be a season defining game for both teams

I like the Galway team but expect a few positional switches upfront. Start is crucial for both teams, Galway to get some confidence back, Clare to build on good performance v Tipp. Unfortunately I fear if it is close Clare will win but if Galway play anywhere near their best I think they will win with a little to spare. Key will be Galway scoring goals. Lohan's helmet, to say it's season defining is stating the obvious, by Saturday night one county will only have club matches to look forward to.

I don't just mean that one team will be knocked out, what I mean is a win could give a big boost to the winners allowing them a good run from here!!!

If hurling teams were horses, Dublin would be top of the handicap at this stage ;-)

Womenourlimits, I wouldn't rub the win in. That said, the way some Clare players played last night was shameful. McInerney wasn't the only one who should have got the line.

I agree the Clare players were a disgrace for the most part. But Galway will win nothing. Canning is a very arrogant young fella. In saying all this, I am leacing for Australia in 10 weeks and absolutely demoralised with the state of Clare senior hurling. I cant believe the last senior game I saw for the next 3-4 years was that farce. Sparrow needs to go and take Doyle., Chaplin and F. O Loughlin with him.

Cant believe I travelled from Dublin to watch that game. Thank the lord it is not all doom and gloom as we appear to have a mini conveyor belt of talent coming through and possibly the best minor team in the country at the moment. Unfortunately, IMO it will be 4-5 yars before Clare are seriously competitive again. Davy Fitz needs to come in now. He wll sort that team out and give them the kick they need. This is he lowest I have ever seen Clare hurling.

On one final point you womenourlimits are an absolute disgrace the way you conduct yourself on this site. You wouldnt really expect to see an arrogant Galway man. Remind me again when ye last won a senior all Ireland???

Clare still put up a very good score, 0-20 would win most matches, it was unfortunate that they met a galway team with a point to prove. Main priority for clare should be to get out of division 2 ASAP.

Credit to Joe Canning. I've been critical of him in the past but he played very well last night. I'd argue that it was his best championship performance since the Cork game in 2008. Hopefully Galway find a way to maximise his contribution to the game. If they can make him work, then they have forwards like Tannian, Farragher and Hayes who are also very dangerous.

Another bad year for Clare. Two losses in the championship and still a Division Two team. What I find quite incredible is that in the last twelve Munster championships, Clare have only won a miserable two games. Two games? Are themselves and Kerry now the hurling nobodys of that province again? Yes I know it's a young team but that is a very damning statistic. They have some good players like Nicky O'Connell, John Conlon and Conor McGrath who should be around that team for a long time but there is a major paucity of talent in a lot of positions.

I had a good feeling about last Saturday when I heard John McIntyre being interviewed on RTE before the game. He said the only thing they did in training in the last two weeks was hurling. Going back to the basics. You could see in the game they were looking up finding teammates in space and not just closing their eyes and hitting it like what they did vs Dublin. Hopefully the Galway football management have being doing the same thing. .

Cork is going to be tough but hopefully now Galway have a small bit of momentum and get through to a quarter final. Gaillimh Abu. .

Was a good performance, but to be fair Clare crumpled and were beat after the 1st 10 minutes.

Next weekend will be much tougher. Any trip into Cork is not going to be easy. It's going to be a very tough ask, but if the lads show up the same as against Clare we have a good chance.

Momentum is a key word and hopefully we'll have some now. Cork haven't really had a game since the Tipp match (no disrespect to Laois), so it's hard to know what state they're at.

Another thing i'd like to say though is i'm guessing this match will be fixed for Saturday. It's not going to be fair on Galway fans who will have to make a decision on whether to head for Meath or Cork. Good old GAA thinking ahead.

I always found you a reasonable poster, and I know it is they day after a tough defeat so your frustration is understandable, but Joe Canning is anything but arrogant. He hasn't played well in the last 18 months and hopefully saturday was the start of him coming back to form but he is one of the most humble, down to earth men you will ever meet.
In relation to Clare, I know saturday was a very bad night but the future is not all that bleak. It is a very young and niave team but they will learn. The top priority has to be to get back hurling in division 1.
