McGourty respectful of Lake men
15 June 2011

Antrim defender Kieran McGourty won't be taking the challenge of Westmeath lightly.

The sides meet in the preliminary round of the All-Ireland SHC qualifiers at Casement Park on Saturday and St Gall's clubman McGourty insists the Ardsmen will have to be at their best to book a date with Carlow in the next round:

"We've always had problems with Westmeath. People are saying - and it's natural enough - that it's a good draw, but Westmeath are sitting saying the same thing.

"If they had a pick, I'm sure they would have picked Antrim or Laois.

"We're not at the next level yet, and Westmeath think they're at our level, so it's up to Antrim to go out and show that we are still ahead of them and that we can push on to play the bigger teams."

Who told Antrim they where A level above Wastmeath?

Who does he think he is? Next thing you know he'll be suggesting he's worth his place in the team?

Down are the Ardsmen, how dare he jump on their bandswagon.

Tomorrow I'm going to my boss to insist on a pay decrease, I've been getting ideas above my station for too long now.

Yeah you'd wonder how our mothers ever gave birth to us with the size of our heads. I wouldn't pay too much attention to what McGourty says anyway as he seems to have ideas above his station. But, it is still ironic that this topic has been raised by a Tyrone gael.

Now let us analyse this.

the headline is "McGourty RESPECTFUL of Lake men"

Hmmmmm....sounds extremely arrogant to me.

The first sentence says, "Antrim defender Kieran McGourty WON'T BE taking the challenge of Westmeath lightly"

That is a sure sign of big headedness.

The article also calls Antrim "The ARDSMEN" so perhaps should be examined closely.

Finally, it is KIERAN McGourty. Sorry to disappoint.

Now get someone to read all of the above to you and then reply.

And as you can see from my post you were certainly right about me.

I do feel superior, certainly to Tyrone people.

where is Tyrone by the way?

I see you made it too Consultant at Antrim A & E PAT sure we poor Tyrone people don't have a Hospital of our own so wee have to take the arduous and sometimes perilous journey down your way especially if your an injured GAA Man and your colours not welcome.

I'm inclined to agree with you I thought he was being respectful he was only setting out his stall and the teams as in what needs to be done.

Westmeath have been relegated to division 3A this year. In that respect they are a level down. It's their first year back in the McCarthy Cup as well, they are looking to show they belong at that level.

They have been resurfacing all the roads, not so perilous now.

I live close to the hospital, mine is the house with the MASSIVE Starry Plough flag on it.

Antrim's Neal McAuley

Antrim defender Neal McAuley is refusing to underestimate Westmeath's challenge ahead of Saturday's All-Ireland hurling qualifier in Casement Park.

Back from suspension after missing the Leinster SHC quarter-final defeat to Wexford, McAuley warns that Antrim can afford to take nothing for granted against opponents who almost shocked Galway a fortnight ago.

Now those country lads are at it...........

Who said this? Wexford aren't one off the bigger teams and they hammered the mighty Antrim god only knows what kilkenny tipp galway or waterford would do to Antrim.

I am struggling to see the arrogance. Antrim haven't progressed to a higher level.....Westmeath believe they are at the same level. He then wants to show them that Antrim are better (while playing at the same level).

Now stop being ridiculous.

Of course the teams you just named would beat Antrim. That wasn't anything to do with the statement you are complaining about.

What's your point? The fella made a reasonable statement and you seem to have taken it up wrong.

Basically there is very little between Antrim, Carlow, Laois and Westmeath but McGourty feels that his team is slightly stronger than the others....but each are capable of beating each other.

Don't think East Antrim has too many GAA heads to be honest there is virtually only 2 clubs in East Antrim and one has no senior team (Larne)
