Michael Murphys sending off

Totally ridiculous! If this red card is not rescinded then I give up on Gaelic football altogether.... a disgraceful decision when one looks at the decapitation attempt on Karl Lacey late in todays game which only warranted a yellow...

A joke of a red card, hope he gets all clear for the semi even though he has the potential to cause Tyrone major problems.

Same with Brian Farrells red against Kildare.Turning into a game for auld women and its gettin ridiculous. These GAA rule-makers and hierarchy would want to stop trying to model our games on the soccer, its beyond a joke and is turning people off!

Was listening to the radio commentary just before my afternon was rescued by the brilliant game from Thurles. I heard Oisin McConville excuse the first sending off on the basis that an Ulster ref would not have produced a red card! Well, maybe an Ulster Kung Fu ref mightn't have! In fairness McConville might not have seen the incident from the side angle. Definite red.

The Murphy one, looking at it on the "highlights" looked harsh and seemed to have been the consequence of Reilly deciding to act the maggot and stay on the ground. Contact seemed to be with chest and from Murphy's shoulder and chest.

People are ciriticsing referees but in fairness if players come out to play a negative cynical game then the ref has to try and impose some sort of discipline. Otherwise it will descend into a farce. The Waterford/Limerick hurling match was played in similarly bad conditions but the referee was able to allow a physical tough game to flow because none of it descended into nastiness. He was consistent in penalising head high challenges with the stick and there were few of them. He yellow carded a few of these earlier on and didn't automatically reach for another when players already on yellows put in hard but legitimate challenges. Once players see consistency they play within the parameters.

Trouble with football imho is that teams themselves go out to spoil and chance their arms and will do whatever they think they can get away with, which seems to differ radically according to who has the whistle.

Both them Duffys are seriously picky and ruin many games.

Murphy raised his hand and contacted the player, by defination a red. The rule book says nothing about the severity of the contact. raised hand contact, red card. ref correctly used the rule.

now you make us look like sore losers
if Murphy's warrented a red, then most games would end up with about 2 players a side.
their are rules and then there plain cop-on.
Ref bottled it, and tried to help Cavan, unfortunately we weren't able to help ourselves

No he didnt raise his hand anyway, go away outa that.
What happened was the ref didnt know weather he made a good call sending off the cavan man so he tried to even it up as soon as he can. Its a stupid trait that alot of bad referee's use. It happens all the time.

say what you want folks but as per the rules it was a sending off- it was a strike off the ball- he deserved to go! change the rules or impliment the ruoles we have but ignoring them is not an option. he should have known better isnt he supposed to be the captain?

very harsh red card but Murphy was pushing and shoving and getting involved in all sorts of nonsense up to that point and that might have swayed the ref. Having said that i hope the card is recinded

Murphy should have been let carry on, it was a blatant dive from our fella. He didnt raise his hand, he threw his shoulder into his marker after his marker had pushed him initially.

Fair is fair, and he was hard done by.

Spot who didnt even see the incident.

Murphy did not raise his hands, he just threw in a shoulder.

If that's a yellow card, never mind a straight red we might as well start sending lads out in ballerina dresses.

Wowfull decision by the ref to send murphy off cavan lad just made a meal of the clash and ref bottled it instead of allowing match to continue.Bad blow for donegal if the red card stands and does not get squashed...

As a neutral I have to agree with all the posts here it was just about a free not to mind a card of any colour. Just simple niggle between two men unfortunately one man was considerably bigger - they will appeal and win in my opinion cos don;t think Murphy is a dirty player.
