A Plan for the Development of Kilkenny Football

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With the embarrassment that was Kilkenny's National Football League campaign this year, I believe it is now high time for action and a plan for the development of Kilkenny football in a structured way that allows them to compete at a level where they are not going to be humiliated week in and week out.

Might I suggest that a start would be allowing Kilkenny footballers to compete in Division 4 of the Ladies National Football League where they might find their feet for a few years and then hopefully in time gain promotion to Division 3 of the Ladies League. After watching the Ladies Division 4 Final on Satursday between Roscommon and Westmeath, I believe entering the bottom tier of the Ladies Football League would be the ideal platform for the development of football in Kilkenny.

Any opinions?

Could we put a plan in for Donegal hurling at the same time.

I dont see why you have to be so little making in your comments regarding Kilkenny football, its not that long ago that Donegal football was embarrasing itself on a regular basis with poor displays and rank indiscipline so ease up on the smart comments, the guys that play for football for Kilkenny have as much pride as those who play for Donegal, Meath or anyone else and don't deserve to have such demeaning comments made of them, and that is no way disrespecting ladies football which I know is of a high quality.

I,d say Kilkenny footballers would agree to this with the knowledge of swapping jerseys at final whistle :-)

Nobody trying to be demeaning here - only trying to be constructive - boys and girls play sports together at underage level - it's all about making games meaningful and at a standard at which teams can compete. There's nothing more demeaning for the footballers of Kilkenny than getting thumped by thirty points in every game they play in the system that pertains at present. At least with this proposal, the Kilkenny footballers might be competitive which can only be good for football in Kilkenny going forward....

Donegal concentrate solely on football and ignore hurling. Result = 1 All-Ireland.

Kilkenny concentrate solely on hurling and ignore football. Result = 32 All-Irelands.

Plus Donegal has about 50,000 more people living in it than Kilkenny.

Nobody is trying to be demeaning here. What is more demeaning than a team getting thumped by an average of over 30 points in every match they play. At least with this proposal Kilkenny footballers would be able to play at a level where they would at least be competitive and maybe even win some games. What is demeaning about that..... have you any better proposals for the development of Kilkenny football?

Lifford, your attempt at humour is poor and the administrators decision not to post my previous post shows they obviously agree with your attempt to demean the lads who play football for Kilkenny.

I can tell you this, if KK were to play football and hurling against Donegal, the aggregate score would see a win for the Cats.

Donegal hurling is not ignored. A lot of work is being done at underage level at present and is being promoted right across the county. If I'm not mistaken, something similar had to be done with Dublin hurling the fruits of which were all apparent yesterday.

As for your argument about 50,000 more people in Donegal than Kilkenny.....what a load of......!! At that rate, Dublin should have 15 times the number of All Irelands that Kilkenny have which by my calculations would be 480......stop talking drivel....!!

Accusing another poster of drivel after what you wrote!! Pot, kettle, black.

Hurling has been largely ignored in Donegal, and in a lot of other counties, and football has been promoted for over a hundred years. And what do yous have to show for that? One All-Ireland. Kilkenny do the exact same thing as Donegal, and other counties, except they ignore football and promote hurling rather than the norm across the country. And what do they have to show for it? 32 All-Irelands.

One All-Ireland in 127 years of conentrating on the one sport. At least when Kilkenny ignore one sport that they make it count in the other.

The development of Kilkenny football is not an issue not for me or you but for Kilkenny people, as it always has been, although many others seem to enjoy highlighting their supposed ignorance of the big ball game purely in a lot of cases because of jealousy regarding their success on the hurling field. To suggest, joke or not, that Kilkenny football would be benefited by getting the men's team to play against a womens team is akin to travelling to Kilkenny and slapping every one of those football players in the face. If you are so concerned about minority sports in counties then perhaps you should embrace some Kilkenny people and get them to do some training in Donegal to lift their standard with the small ball.

Lifford Gael doesn't speak for the rest of the County! It just seems to be one man's (whacky) opinion on the state of football in Kilkenny.

From discussing this with my KK friends, the thing is that nobody in KK are embarrased by the football team it's just not an issue. Outside KK however people fret and frown about this issue, perhaps the football team should come under one of these other county boards to spare their blushes and they could rescue KK football.

everybody is happy and the non representative Donegal poster Lifford could get on the team and act out his fantasy?

Seriously. Are we not done talking about Killkenny football yet? I can't think of a single more meaningless topic.

true it is a meaningless topic, they don't want a football team and it's as simple as that. Sure they struggled to field a team a couple of times, whole county is obsessed with hurling
