Who is the best manager your county ever had?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Apologies if this topic has been dealt with here before. I'm new to this site, so if this is an old subject you can just ignore it.

If not though, who do you think was the best hurling/football managers your county ever had? I was reading an article about the ideal profile of the next Limerick hurling manager (which I thought was odd, as Richie Bennis is still there), and it mentioned Donal O'Grady as an ideal candidate. I would consider Donal as Cork's best hurling manager, not just for the success he achieved but also for the changes within the team he began. In football, it's got to be Billy.

And yourself?

Joe Kernan is the best manager Armagh ever had, he won 3 All-Ireland Club medals, 3 Ulster Club, 1 All-Ireland Senior and National League. He also stated that he doesn't think he would ever manage another county incase he had to play Armagh and he could never do that.

Undoubtably Mickey Harte winning two All Irelands, National League and numerous underage titles.

We also hold big Art McRory in high esteem up here but he just couldn't get us over the finish line in the mid eighties, nineites and early 2000's. He put phenominal work into developing youth teams in the seventies to build a platform for the future and respect is due to him for all that.

hard to define best? is that most successful or someone who did the hard work- some lads come in get a bit of success and never develop the teams as they are more interested in their own success

Kerry - Micko.

Funnily enough he will pop up for Wicklow, Laois and Kildare I imagine. A living legend!

You can define 'best' whatever way you like. If you think it's based on success, go with that.

Funny how many choices are current managers.
