919941 I've never said a word about contraception or pre-marital relationships on this forum, as neither of them bother me in the slightest. This thread is about an incident involving a large group of Irish Travellers. I make a comment, and instead of engaging with what I said, you and Dhorse start talking about religion. Do you have some sort of obsession with religion? There are plenty of threads for that stuff, this thread shouldn't be one of them.
Now put forward an idea, comment or suggestion, or else stay quiet.
___________ OK well I'm Ok with travellers because I can't find anything in the Ronald Regan, Jerry Falwell 25 page large print idiots guide to right wing christian conservatisim that says I shouldn't be.

Being a bit of a hypocrit here aren't you, would they not be from a underprivalaged background more likely make most of their money from non legit means (black economy most of the time)!!! Now adays you don't see as many poor travellers well as poor as they make out they are, I doubt many travellers pay tax and have legit business's (limited companies etc.).
How am I being a hypocrite? I have read through your post, and you make no sense whatsoever. Also, your spelling is way off. Back to the studying Hag. The exams start on Monday.

Seamus89:
Travellers used to be poor, now their not as they make most of their money throught crime.... blows your point of poverty has nothing to do with crime out of the water!!!! Another point that will disprove your theory is the aboriginies in australia they make up 3% of the population and account for something like 20% of serious crime is this becuase as a race they have no morals..... look at gangs in american what are they made up of you guessed it youths from poor backgrounds. What about the prison profile in ireland is the majority made up of middle class or upper class no mostly working class and people in poverty.
You try and make things seem simple saying that lack of morals (I'd even put lack of punishment before it) is the reason for crime now it is one of the reasons but not the main one and there are many more. Also you have tunnell vision in most of your views especially with the church which i would think your leaning towards their lack of input now leads to no morals and thus crime, but you never opening your mind to the failings of the church it has been currupted by thousands of years of power thus the origional word of god has been currupted in it meaning aswell.
Also Cheap shot at going after poor spelling always a sign someone feels their loosing a debate, sorry but I'm mildly dyslexic so that accounts for bad spelling every now and then I read threw this a few times so it should be better.
Also heed your own advice about studying I don't have any exams and if your in the Library or the labs I think someone else could do with the machine as your wasting it's computing resources with your drivil!! Open your mind your not always right about things but I suppose your young and you'll learn!!

I didn't say anything about religion per se, what has contraception and pre marital relationships got to do with religion? i am merely enquiring are your views on travellers and the views of the hierarchy (roman catholic) on the travelling community compatible. my humble apologies if i strayed from your strict agenda on what may be included on any topic

Not in the library Hag, or the Venus lab. The place was packed all Easter Week, and I've avoided going there as you can get little done. The amount of people you see in there on Facebook is shocking, and irritating. Studying for my two Politics exams at home, only occasionally going to the library to change books. Sorry about the spelling comment by the way, didn't realise you were dyslexic.
As for the central point, I still think you're going all over the place. Crime with Travellers is the same as any other crime for me, it comes back to how they're raised. They're taught not to respect authority, to use violence wherever and whenever they like, and that if they ever get into trouble, they can just blame it on 'discrimination'.
I have one very clear memory of the one of the Traveller boys I mentioned earlier. He got into a fight with another lad (no shrinking violet himself) in the schoolyard. He started the fight, and when the principal asked people who had seen it how it started, several people answered truthfully that the Traveller guy started it, as he had started various other fights in the schoolyard.
Immediately, he started crying his eyes out in front of the entire school, and blubbering that it was all because 'I'm a Traveller and he's settled.' I'd never seen anything more pathetic in all my life, and I haven't seen anything more pathetic since. It taught me a valuable lesson though about victimhood.
You should always, always, take Traveller claims of discrimination with a pinch of salt. And I always will.

919957 folks travellers dont give the irish a bad name the irish people en masse do a great job of that themselves and we fully deserve our reputation as the laziest greediest people on the planet - and the age old stereotype of the thick paddy is well and truly confirmed on a global stage as we refuse to acknowledge our failings and balme everyone but the person in the mirror
For once Liatroid, spot on.

Well said Seanie. I agree with you, a lot more do as well. The liberal media though is very effective at silencing those dissenting voices who don't go with the flow regarding social issues like the right to life or the definition of marriage.

8 Sergeant? Are you a medical student or something? That's an awful lot to have, maybe UCD (I think I remember you saying you were there) puts more emphasis on them than UL.
I've only 2 exams this semester Sergeant, very light load compared to other semesters. One is 'Politics of the EU', the other is 'Politics of Ireland'. I'm doing well so far in both modules, and I'm good in this area, so I'm not stressing at all really. Actually, I think I'm dangerously relaxed about it, hope it doesn't come back to bite me...
In UL, the exams start next Monday, and then there's 3 weeks of them. That said, very few people will be doing any in the third week, that's the graveyard shift.
