Clare Under 21 team

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I was at the Under 21 game last Night and I was delighted at the way Clare played, it is a graet sign for the future already this year we have beaten Cork at Minor and Under 21 and it would be great if we could make it a hatrick next Sunday.

Th effing referee! He made countless bad decisions in the match and cost clare our first munster under 21! I want a rematch!

Should be a good game tonight. Home advantage is a big plus for Clare, but then again Hanon & Downes are in great form for Limerick.
I expect this to be a very high scoring game, and hopefully Clare's experience at minro & u-21 for last few years will stand to us.

Well u21's out on Thursday , hopefully there is no hang over from Saturday's game , very talented team this year it seems , third in the Betting stakes to take the All Ireland , think your serious value for money considering the calibre of player available to you this year , my attempt at the team is

7 Morey
8 Kelly
9 Galvin
10 McInerney
11 Collins

I would be shocked if Niall Arthur made the 26 man match day squad. Most of the team is picked with probably two places in the backs and two places in the forwards up for grabs. Taeffe is nailed on for goals while Paul Flanagan will be corner back and Dvid McInerney full back and more than likely Killian Ryan in the other corner although he is under pressure from Jack Browne.

In all likihood Seadna Morey and Pat O'Connor will be the wing backs with Conor Ryan of Cratloe at centre back. Although there is always the possibility of moving Morey back to the corner and starting Stephen O'Halloran on the wing. Kelly and Galvin will more than likely be the midfield but again they have the option of moving one of these to half forward and putting either Morey and O'Connor midfield and playing O'Halloran wing back, although O'Halloran has been struggling a small bit for form

Podge Collins will be centre forward with Peter Duggan on the wing with Aaron Cunnigham likely to start on the other side, although he could well be in the corner with Kelly/Galvin on the wing. Conor McGrath will be full forward while Cathal O'Connell, Davy O'Halloran and Cathal McInerney will be fighting it out for the corner slots. There is also the option of starting Shane Golden or Malone in the half forward line for a bit of bulk.

I think the team will be along following lines
Taeffa
Flanagan-McInerney-Ryan
O'Connor-Ryan-Morey
Galvin-Kelly
Cunningham-Collins-Duggan
O'Halloran-McGrath-O'Connell

Subs
16: Woods
17: Vaughan
18: Browne
19: Boyce
20: O'Halloran
21: Sheahan
22: Golden
23: Malone
24: Cathal McInerney
25: O'Neill
26:Colleran

I would like to see him start myself, he is a smashing prospect but the fact is that Killian Ryan has been very impressive in challenge and development squad games all year and did well for the intermediates a few weeks ago, he is physically far bigger at this point in time, which will see him get the nod IMHO. Would have no issue if Browne started and he is a class act but I think Management will go with bulk in the backs hence why the two Ryans will get their places.

It is some fall from grace for Cathal McInerney that there is every likihood that he won't start after more than holding his own for the seniors in 2011 but there is a lot of competition for places and management will pick on form and not reputation.

He is a decent hurler alright and a decent poacher but there are better/more natural inside forwards around who are in better form at this moment in time

I really expected Limerick to win last night. They must not be as good as peple think because, maybe im wrong but that does not appear to be a particularly strong Tipp team.

Clare will hopefully do the business against W'Ford. If that is the team I am surprised to see Tots start ahead of McInerney. Tots is very quick though. We have great pacr in the forwards and as long as we can give low hard ball we should do alright. Waterford will be backboned by two good minor teams and should not ben written off but its a Clare win by 6 or 7 for me
