'I was just wondering what are the fundamental differences between the weaker counties and stronger counties? ' thurlesblues (Tipperary) - Posts: 4475 - 18/04/2011 13:34:29 913926 Link 0 |
One of the main differences is the utter contempt RTE have towards the lower leagues, last night their failure to have any footage of the Divisional finals, inaccurate reporting, innaccurate league tables, no wonder if the national broadcaster couldn't care less it filter down through the public's subconscience, cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1688 - 18/04/2011 14:11:16 913982 Link 0 |
hey Pomeroy switch it around! whats the difference between strong and weak counties in Gaelic football? You tell me that . Tyrone would be considered a weak county in my opioion with 3 All Ireland titles compared to Dublin 22 and the Kingdom 36. Why are ye so far behind them Pomeroy ye are even one behind Tipp in football maybe ye should try out the hurling for a change!! thurlesblues (Tipperary) - Posts: 4475 - 18/04/2011 14:14:00 913987 Link 0 |

That old chestnut, Hurling is much more skillful blah blah blah. Let's face it, it isn't. You give all the young Gaels in a county a Hurl and trained them throughout their childhood you're going to get 30 who could play Hurling to a high standard. Truth is youngsters don't want to play it and would rather play the one true sport of the GAA. That's why Gaelic football is much more popular. That's why only a handful of counties play Hurling to any sort of standard. That's why 20 Liam McCarthy's is equivalent to one Sam Maguire. Whatever became of the hurling development officers supposedly appointed throughout the country ? Has this funding been withdrawn or cutback by the sports council and the GAA ? Are these lads only part-time now ? When we see most counties spend over half a million on preparing their senior county teams - with some its over a 1M - you'd have to ask why can't that sort of money cannot be made available to good quality juvenile coaching particularly in the so-called weaker counties. I'm well aware Tipp have won more, of course it was a lot easier to win back then but good luck to them. I don't particularly care what happened 100 years ago, I've seen my county lift the big one three times, you never have and I feel for you that you've never seen that and you never will. Please explain why Gaelic football is so much more popular if it really is as bad as you make out? pplocal (Tyrone) - Posts: 5878 - 18/04/2011 15:35:53 914117 Link 0 |

How come only Tipp Kilkenny and Cork win them so ? bogstandard (Wexford) - Posts: 799 - 19/04/2011 18:41:02 915157 Link 0 |
The difference between the strong and the weaker counties is that in the main hurling counties, young hurlers train a lot, are coached in the basic skills early in their childhood and want to get better at the game, have few distractions and want to play for their county. They also have a good games programme and this gets them to a high standard. Another basic reason is of course is that the whole community is involved in the overall development of the game and football plays second fiddle. carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1879 - 19/04/2011 18:46:08 915166 Link 0 |
