If that moves away from RTE that's a nice individual contract to go after... but anyways it probably wont happen jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 04/04/2011 17:03:18 903212 Link 0 |

The only concern I would have Jim , is that it may exclude the casual viewer from watching GAA. The positive feature with channels like tg4 and rte is that anyone can enjoy a Gaelic game , even if they just randomly hit upon it. I believe that anyone who inadvertently switched to a big football or Hurling encounter couldnt help themselves but get drawen in by the spectacle. So non GAA people get an opportunity to see what all the fuss is about. Just a thought. gaelantrim (Antrim) - Posts: 1616 - 05/04/2011 11:54:51 903806 Link 0 |

In this day and age there is no reason we cant have a match of the day type highlights programme to include a range of highlights from across all divisons in Hurling and football . The weaker county should not be ignored. I am sure Setanta could do something like this? Informer (None) - Posts: 185 - 05/04/2011 13:16:52 903935 Link 0 |

ok folks this would mean a serious loss of revenue- no tv3 money, no rte money, no tg4 money, no setanta money. while we can debate the merits all day long about it - it makes completely no sense in economic terms- those above fight over games which drives the price up and up, a gaa channel would be handed the games for free- massive shortfall in money which in economic terms would mean potentially doubling ticket prices. sorry to be the bearer of bad news but on matters like this talking economically is all that is important- especially for an organisation in decline like the gaa. the gaa should immediately rename croker look at theirfu they got over 10 million for 3 years to use the name aviva - the only people who complain about things like this are those who havent a business brain cell to their name and think that everything should be free i.e. want everything but prepared to pay for nothing liathroidboy (Mayo) - Posts: 4921 - 05/04/2011 13:19:53 903938 Link 0 |

A gaa channel would be a huge success imo. Just think of all the great games we miss every year. The brilliant u21 championships get practically no coverage despite huge national interest and the fact they regularly throw up some of the best matches of the year. Likewise with the minor championships. The splitting of the championship matches between tv3 and rte is painful as tv3's commentators, analyists (except mcgee) and presenters are a pale imitation of rte. Also there is the fact that the best league matches go to setanta which nobody in my experience has. The gaa is now big enough and popular enough to sustain it's own channel. mikeoc (Kerry) - Posts: 567 - 05/04/2011 13:22:11 903941 Link 0 |

Agree totally with all except liathroid boy (in good company then) RTE treatment of GAA borders on contempt for our national games. They are not even bothered to read out the national league scores on Sunday Night (there were wins for Derry Galway Wicklow etc.) . On one Sunday the sports reporter said we have no time for the GAA scores now you can check them on our web site. There also seems to be a policy to highlight the negative e.g. on Saturday sports recently the preview for the coming weekend consisted of Marty Morrissey grilling some GAA official as to why the Dublin Mayo match was not played on Fri. No mention of any other fixtures. Last wekend rugby ruled on RTE and barely a mention was given before the match to the double header in Croke Park or indeed any other GAA fare for that matter. mod (Mayo) - Posts: 859 - 05/04/2011 14:53:58 904053 Link 0 |
