Well done Cross. Don't like some of the comments slating their tactics. They are tough footballers and its not their fault if others can't match their intensity and commitment. laflour (Cavan) - Posts: 528 - 20/03/2011 14:34:35 892064 Link 0 |
Clubs in the north don't get the large financial backing that southern clubs get ( and rightly get) through government and national lottery funding, Glenswilly77 (Donegal) - Posts: 201 - 20/03/2011 20:37:45 892515 Link 0 |
I was at the Armagh/Donegal All Ireland semi final in 2003. There was some boy a few rows in front of us giving it out big time during the first half about " f****** Armagh Nordie this and that/British b******* this and that......and I don't think the eejit was even from Donegal. Anyway he was sitting not too far from a few South Armagh boys who weren't taking too kindly to yer man's remarks. The guy left his seat at half time and was followed by a few blokes and when he came back he was silent and a bit pale. I think he was spoken to during the interval. Tongo, what's your local club team? How many Cross matches did you see this year? Tom1916 (Armagh) - Posts: 2001 - 21/03/2011 09:52:51 892704 Link 0 |

Well done to Cross, hard luck to Brigid's. I felt that even though they playted well they were too reliant on Senan Kilbride and when we cut out the ball to him then there were no real options for Brigids. Their midfield never really got into the game and we just had more options up front. The no11 going off was also a major blow as he was giving good support to Kilbride. For St Brigids to go the extra step they need to get more from Frankie Dolan. He may be comfortable on the ball and can play a nice pass but he would be better employed closer to the goal where he could actually move the scoreboard and take the pressure off Kilbride. Tom: I live in Southampton so my nearest club is probably St Anthony's in Reading. Have seen two Cross matches this year. Neither have convinced me to change my opinion of them. Tongo (UK) - Posts: 1795 - 21/03/2011 12:07:55 892826 Link 0 |
crossmaglen on sunday had one 18 yr old, one 20 yr old, three 21 yr olds, and four 22 yr olds Thats 9 of the team under 23. i guess aaron and stephen kernan are about 28, tony is a few years younger. paul would be 23. Not sure of the other ages but its looks light a bright future for cross shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1948 - 21/03/2011 12:33:13 892858 Link 0 |
St pauls of reading now there's a team to admire, perhaps you could get them to come over and show the Cross boys how to play football? I can't believe you've seen 2 whole matches, that's alot of matches to base your opinion on. I stand corrected. Tom1916 (Armagh) - Posts: 2001 - 21/03/2011 13:11:15 892896 Link 0 |

It never ceases to amaze me how bitter and begrudging posters (not the st brigids ones) on here can be. Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12484 - 21/03/2011 15:30:31 893042 Link 0 |
Well that's two more matches than you've seen of St Pauls. And St Anthonys. Unfortunately we aren't all fortunate enough to live in / near Crossmaglen, so some people have to support clubs which aren't winning titles year in, year out. Or are you advocating a bit of old fashioned glory hunting? Either that or insinuating that Cross are more important cos they've won a few titles. nemo record 7 SENIOR ALL IRELANDS . 15 MUNSTER .25 COUNTYS. 4 INTERMEDIATE .1 JUNIOR. 11 U21 .10 MINOR.............................................CROSS RECORD 5 ALL IRELAND SENIOR 9 ULSTER AND 39 COUNTY . NOW CONSIDERING THE CORK SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP IS FAR MORE COMPETITIVE THAN ARMAGHS IT PUTS IT IN TO MORE FOCUS. YES CROSS ARE A GREAT CLUB AND GREAT CHAMPIONS BUT STOP THIS NOSENSE OF GREATEST CLUB IN IRELAND THE FACTS AND RECORDS STAND ALONE booboo (Cork) - Posts: 1382 - 21/03/2011 17:23:16 893176 Link 0 |
booboo you're stats are valid and cannot be denied. There is the argument that Nemo have not been as prominent in the last 15-20 years when club football has been reaching a seemingly higher level. What I would state is that nemo had a great bunch of players in the 70's/80's(Billy Morgan, Jimmy Kerrigan Denis Allen and Tony Nation to name a few), like we have. They were the backbone of the various teams over the 70's and 80's the same way as Hearty, Oisin, Francie and The Macs have been for us. I also believe that the 2 teams are probably comparable in terms of their success and impact on their relative counties. What is interesting however, is that since the team of the 70s/80s ended there hasn't been the same level of domination from Nemo. I personally believe that we will eclipse the record of 7 AI's as I don't think Nemo have enough to win the AI in the foreseeable future. They will won some Cork championchips but the likes of the Haven, Ballincollig and Douglas will have a big say as well, as will the Divisional teams, in particular Muskerry. I also think that outside of Paul Kerrigan there are no real stand out players. Martin Cronin is on his last legs, Niblock is a strong player but soes not have the extra cutting edge and Masters is too slow. RANGER you just made my point cork championship is by far a greater accolade than an armagh one .plus you only deal with the senior level cross would need to be playing sucessfully for another 80 years before they could elcilpse nemo cumlative titles . cross are a good club but nemo undoubtly the best. and future speculation is just that .... your dismissle of the current nemo team is also silly they were one game away from the final and with the performance cross put in on paddys day they could easily have won it booboo (Cork) - Posts: 1382 - 21/03/2011 20:02:17 893367 Link 0 |
