Eoin Kelly, Bernard Brogan to meet Obama

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Couldn't have happened to more decent men. These guys are class acts. But from a Tipp perspective, I am delight Kelly has got the honour( feel sorry for Lar Corbett considering he is hurler of the year) Hopefully he'll teach Obama a thing or two about hurling! I have met Eoin Kelly on a few occasions, great hurler and a gentleman to boot.

It has to be said that if you were a Cork footballer you'd be right to feel a little slighted right now though.

Aye thats great, but I agree with Doublehop, Brogan is a class footballer and all that but he hasnt an All Ireland Senior Medal to his name, Maybe they could of sent a person who won the all Ireland like Brolly or Spillane haha! Naw seriously maybe a Cork or Kerry footballer

I am not being anyway biased here but why Bernard Brogan is being sent is beyond me, a fantastic footballer who had a fantastic year but not a member of an All Ireland winning team unlike Kelly. Cork would quite rightly feel aggrieved here, one of their team undoubtedly should be sent. Bernard Brogan is a fantastic asset to Dublin and the GAA but they need to realise that over exposure of a particular player can be harmful as well with regards to the feeling that can be generated by such excessive exposure. Brogan needs to be minded and promotionally used when he is really needed, the same goes for any top player.

Is it not becasue Brogan is GPA/GAA footballer of the year?

But in saying that Lar Corbett wasnt picked...? Perhaps he couldnt go? but if thats not the case you may have a point...

Either way he's a fine example of what our sport is all about... he had a lot of praise on this site recently for his comments regarding the amateur status of the GAA and the pride he has in representing that ethos.

He'll do a good job

This thread sums up Ireland, the haves and the have nots.

If you happen to be the greatest Gaelic footballer EVER, but are from one of 20 counties with no chance of winning an all Ireland, that's it, you are not entitled to meet someone? And hurling would be even narrower.

A trifle exclusive that attitude lads/lasses but indicative of Ireland.

You could not send anyone from cork, who would understand them? They don't speak english or Irish down there.

If I was a Dub I'd look for Bernard to extend his holiday over there. They have a better balance without him as 6 different scorers showed agains Mayo.
At least when he's not there the rest of them know someone will pass the ball.
He might be good but his one man show is holding the rest of the team back.

Id say Brogan was picked as he is easy to understand, talks well and is pleasing to the eye (so im told).
It is a PR stunt after all so no uglies allowed!
