I was at Sat nights match in Croke Park (as a neutral I might add) with my husband (He being a Kerryman and the reason we were there) and 2 children. I have been travelling to matches all over the country cince I was a child and I have never witnessed such unsporting behaviour as on Sat night. I would safely say that 75% of the Dublin fans sitting around us booed every time a Kerry man took a free kick. We were sitting in the family area of the Davin Stand so there were loads of children around us. Please dont tell me that its just a small section of Dubs fans that behave like this. It was a lot more than a small section on Sat night. Men ,women and children were at. If thats the way they see fit to introduce their children to the GAA they would be better off leaving them at home. It certainly took from our enjoyment of what was otherwise a great night with a great sporting match from Kerry and Dublin. I wouldnt mind seeing Dublin do well this yr but I would hate to see their unsporting so called supporters get enjoyment from it. creb (Limerick) - Posts: 131 - 28/02/2011 10:51:53 877714 Link 0 |
If this had happened during the summer the Dubs would pass it off as the sunshine supporters oh that wouldn't happen in the league were the hardcore supporters are present blah blah blah. The proof is in the pudding friends. nacellabeaga (Offaly) - Posts: 700 - 28/02/2011 11:03:29 877721 Link 0 |
Creb I have to agree with you there... for some reason compared to the Cork game there was a large section booing... even tap over frees!! It's just like showing a red flag to a bull... if anything it actually lifts the other team. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 28/02/2011 11:08:55 877727 Link 0 |
Typical Dubs. This is why nobody likes them, and why everyone laughs when they get knocked out of the Championship. On the one hand, I look forward to Dublin being a competing force in hurling. On the other, I dread it, because of this... Seamus89 (Kilkenny) - Posts: 3848 - 28/02/2011 11:10:06 877732 Link 0 |
You've opened a can of worms there but if thats what you experienced then you are quite right to highlight it. brendtheredhand (Tyrone) - Posts: 10897 - 28/02/2011 11:13:18 877739 Link 0 |

I witnessed this before alright but its not just the dubs that are guilty as fermanagh fans have a bad habit of doing this too and I do agree with you that it is unexceptable. In fairness to the dubs you wouldn't hear this at league games in parnell or away from home and it just seems to be at championship time or big games in Croke Park. The Dublin fans that travel to see their team play are the best fans in Ireland, when Armagh had the privilege of hosting Dublin in Crossmaglen a few times the whole village looked forward to them coming up for the craic and their behaviour was impeccable. Creb for a limerick person to start a thread about booing opposing free takers is hilarious! You should watch a video of anmy limerick Tipp game in recent years! Oh the hypocrisy! And ask your husband was he at the Kerry Cork game in Tralee and what he made of EVERY singel Goulding free beeing hugely booed, so much so that Goulding gave it to the kerry "fans" at the end with the fist Gerryblues (Dublin) - Posts: 65 - 28/02/2011 11:36:29 877785 Link 0 |

Seamus, I have never heard Dublin hurling supporters boohing. There was a small element of that last week against Tipp. Unfortunately a lot of young kids seem to think it is accepatable. EVERY county has people at big games who booh and football far more so that hurling where it is rare. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 28/02/2011 12:00:39 877821 Link 0 |

How can people be shocked by this? It's been going on at games for the 20 or so years I've been going to matches. Munster rugby fans love to shish eachother when someones taking a kick so they can all congratulate each other on how sporting they are but that's not part of Gaelic and never has been. I'm not suggesting it's nice to hear but it's hardly a recent phenomenon and is hardly worth losing sleep over it since it goes on in every other sport except rugby. doublehop (Kildare) - Posts: 4172 - 28/02/2011 12:18:48 877858 Link 0 |
