Hard luck Longford, I'd have loved to have seen ye win it. Sounded like a good point from Wexford to win it.

Feck, that is some trouncing by Cork, are we now witnessing the shift in the balance of power at all levels of Munster football and with it, the national picture as well.

Great result for Wexford. We needed a win in something, it was getting very depressing down in loch Gorman when the talk turned to gaa. Really now we can let loose in the semi. Cork look awesome but we should just put the head down not and try and win it. No point is going this far and being content with a Leinster medal. Come on the yellow bellies. Hard look to Longford but it sounds like a lot of that team will be back again next year and give it another shot.

Cork U21 were men against boys......and would beat a lot of senior teams. The development squads of counties like Cork, Tyrone and Armagh are really paying off. Cork outran, outplayed, outsized and of course, well outscored Kerry. Deserving Munster champions.

Very satisfying display from Cork last night who overpowered and outplayed Kerry from the start. Walsh and O'Laoire gained a complete stranglehold at midfield and the forwards were deadly accurate from play. Cork have now amassed 47 scores in two games which is a serious return at any level. It wouldn't surprise me if one or two of the young forwards - Collins and O'Driscoll in particular - earn a call up to the senior panel before the year is out. Obviously the winning margin off 22 points was not an accurate reflection of the two teams but sometimes games, particularly at underage can take on a life of their own and everything Cork tried last night came off while the opposite was true for Kerry.

From the reports and highlights it looked like Galway were impressive in turning over Roscommon by nine points at the weekend and will present a very different challenge the next day at a neutral venue and most likely a much smaller Cork crowd than the large one which turned up last night.

This is really an embarrassment to the national newspaper. Ever hear of rubbing salt into wounds?

In keeping with the poor standard of GAA coverage by RTE, I couldnt find reports on any of the U21 games from last nite on their website, although in fairness their cricket coverage is second to none!

It's taken down now. Your man wrote about Longford finally winning the Leinster and a load of bull. Obviously wen it was level. He's reworded it now and has the headline 'Leinster set completed as long drought ends in purple and gold oasis' as opposed to 'Longford's drout ends in blue and gold'.

I saw Conor Counihan behind the goal last night and he looked a very happy bunny indeed! I thought Donal Og Hodnett was another excellent FF; he scored a beautiful point from play from an extreme angle in the 2nd half.

the thing that hanley though offensive was wexford won.... But serious its a good article telling about a team winning against the odds 20 point hammering to louth last year with 12 players from that panel still playing tells a fair tale story... It the end of the line for wexford as either cavan or tyrone will maul them in the semi finals...

Shaggylegend. this is the article you are referring to. http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-football/leinster-set-completed-as-long-drought-ends-in-purple-and-gold-oasis-2612548.html />I've no complaints about the Wexford article. Im complaining because earlier on this morning they put up an identical article referring to Longford winning which was outrageous. From reading the wexford article its clear it could have been written before the game. They obviously wrote two out and put the wrong one up on independent.ie . The two were very similar i.e replace wexford with Longford.

I don't agree that wexford will get hammered by the winners in ulster. Think people are still taking for granted that because none of the big guns from Leinster made it through that Leinster is weak this year. Time will tell anyway but I think it's impossible to gauge each province against each other at the moment. The argument could also be put forward that cork walked munster and so the other teams were very weak this year. I am sure that most people will say no that cork are just awesome. If Waterford were in corks position at the moment we would be saying munster was **** and they will get hammered.

IT has taken a long time, but Longford have finally completed the Leinster football championship title set.

Some 43 years after winning their first -- and only -- senior title, 87 years after their initial junior success and 82 years after winning the first ever Leinster minor championship, the U-21s have taken their place on the provincial Roll of Honour.

Five Longford U-21 squads had previously reached the final, but the big prize had eluded all of them.

That disappointing return left Longford supporters wondering if the frustrating sequence would continue this year. Those fans need not have worried. This was a squad on a mission which ended in triumph in Portlaoise last night.

O'Moore Park became a blue and gold oasis as elated supporters joined in celebration with the heroic youngsters who had created history. It was an emotional occasion for Longford as they became the 8th county to win the Leinster U-21 title, leaving Wicklow, Carlow, Wexford and Kilkenny still outside the loop.

sympathy

Longford would have felt some sympathy for opponents, who were also seeking to complete the Leinster title set. For Wexford it wasn't to be -- they came up against a Longford squad that wasn't going to take no for an answer.

Superbly prepared by a management team of Padraic Davis, Cathal Conefrey, Eugene McCormack and Pete McQuaid, who between them gave a total of 39 years service to the inter-county cause, this squad has built another layer of confidence in Longford just nine months after the minors won the Leinster title.

That Longford should hold two Leinster crowns at the same time is quite remarkable and, with the seniors bidding to win promotion to Division 3 next Sunday, it really is an exciting time for the county.

Longford football has had so many setbacks over the years that it would be easy to think of themselves as victims. That's not the Longford way, though, and now that they have landed two underage titles in quick succession, it will provide a huge incentive for further expansion over the coming years.

First, of course, the U-21s will be taking their compelling case into the All-Ireland semi-final where they play the Ulster champions on Saturday week. They will do so with a lot of confidence as they are emerging from a province which provided last year's All-Ireland champions with a Jim Gavin-led Dublin team.

For now, it's all about savouring a special success that will send the county's spirits soaring. Not that the players will be allowed much time in that zone before Davis re-focuses them for the even bigger challenge ahead.

Agree it is hard to know but I was in Pairc ui Rinn last night and I have never seen a more complete performance from any Cork team in football. Plus they have a really plum manager in JOhn Cleary. In fact that management team are there for years. 6 Munster championships in 8 years .
