Yes it's nice to see a manager who sees the bigger picture for the county rather than trying to protect his own interests.
Whatever you can say about him as a manager or anything else, he is a wonderful person full-stop. If the Wexford players had half his heart, persistence and determination they would have a couple of medal of some sort in the bag by now.

Think the four teams that will progress tot he semi's will be Cork, Tyrone and Longford and Galway to shade it. Tyrone and Cork would be a mouthwatering AI final. Tyrone backboned by 2008 and 2010 minor success and Cork backboned by Walsh, Sheahan and a very good UCC sigerson winning team. Promises to be a cracker.

Tyrone havent reached theor provincial final yet and have to play Monaghan next Wed far from a foregone conclusion.

On what.are you basing your rating of Tyrone Leitrim?

I think Kerry would have to be favourites against Cork, hammered them last year, and they have James O Donaghue,Paul Geaney,Barry John Walsh,Barry John Keane & Jonathan Lynne from the senior panel, they have 3 off the UCC Sigerson Cup winning team(Casey,Crowley & O Brien),so overall, they have a more experienced side than Cork.saw Galway beat Kerry in a challenge match last month, looked very strong, good forwards&strangely enough for a Galway team,a good midfield.~PHS

Previous minor success is not necessairilr a prerequisite for 21s

I'd agree with the Pope_has_spoken and make Kerry marginal favourites against Cork.

Kerry scored 3-15 against Limerick and can now call up Barry John Keane as well. Serious potential in that Kerry forward line. Cork have 3 or 4 potentially top-class forwards of our own and Walsh at midfield but I'd worry about the inexperience of the Cork defense with 4 starting backs who were Minor last year trying to keep tabs on that Kerry attack. Cork will have to gain a stranglehold at midfield and hope for a big return from Sheehan, Collins and O'Driscoll in attack.

Should be an absolute cracker of a game though but I'd just fancy Kerry to come out on top.

I'd make cork slight favourites against kerry. Aidan walsh in midfield will swing it imo. Kerry however have some outstanding footballers throughout the pitch and if we are to win then crowley, lyne, bjk, bjw, the walshes and geaney will be massive. I believe the winners will win the AI

Great point made about the inexperience of the Cork backs.Last years Cork minor team played unreal football, put up huge scores but conceded a massive amount too.I think they'll win midfield as they usually do,but even if Cork dominate possession,I think the fact that Kerry have the more clinical set of forwards will swing it.~PHS

I'd have to pick tyrone to win ulster they will be battled hardened and for team spirit it will be a massive boost... Tyrone played monaghan in the group stages of the shamrock cup and monaghan won, but the same teams played in the final and tyrone ran out easy winners. Monaghan have some very good players but a lot of passengers aswel. Cavan are waiting in the wings. 3 wk rest could be counter preductive for cavan. should be a good final who ever is there but logic tells of a tyrone win.

I have high hopes for the tyrone team, they have serious talent and pedigree and the u21s has become more and more important...

hi hokey pokey,
I agree that Tyrone is taking the Under21 seriously as suggested by the elevation of Raymond Monroe to the set up. however, if one was to look at the bigger picture it appears to me as if Monroe is being groomed. That said it would be suggestive that perhaps Mickey Harte is preparing to step down.

Hard to judge at this stage given the poor standard of football in Connacht.

Maybe at senor level but undertage football in connacht is strong. Mayo got to 2 AI minor finals in a row yet the u21s lost to Roscommon who won the AI minor in 2006 and have also a decent underage structure regularly competing in connacht finals and AI QF. Roscommon who tho losing by 8 points to dub last year outplayed dublin for 40 mins but could not score so that score was misleading were defeated by a galway side who won the AI minor final in 2007. Underage football in Connacht is on a par with munster and leinster IMO.

Poor underage in Connacht?

2006- Roscommon All Ireland minor champions
2007- Galway All Ireland minor champions
2008- Mayo All Ireland finalists
2009- Mayo All Ireland finalists
2010- Both Connacht teams in the All Ireland semi final, Galway losing theirs by a point.

There is strong underage in Connacht and the above has proven that. So don't be telling me that bull your spreading.. There is alot of good work being done in all five counties and credit to Roscommon, in recent years there underage structure has been exceptional and have been unlucky on ocassions. Sligo are also doing a shed load of work up there, and it may not be apparent on the pitch as of yet, they are improving.

Your basing your comment on senior football but we will back yet, remember it isn't that long ago since Ulster football had a dip.

As for our u21's, they did well yesterday but will have to up their game for the AI Semi. Roscommon didn't show up yesterday but they had a good win against Mayo earlier on, so I thought it would go down to the wire but it didn't turn out that way, unfortunately from a Roscommon prospective.
