Bryan, pretty sad, if 2 of the top 4 footballers of the last 20 years came out of Kildare! Pope_Benedict (Galway) - Posts: 4151 - 21/02/2011 19:21:45 873034 Link 0 |

Maybe derryman meant Brian McGuigan, who I think is as good as his oul' boy, which is saying something. Of course, everyone has their own favourites out of the many great players mentioned here but I think Brian McGuigan is one of the most underrated footballers of the past decade - his sublime vision and intelligence are not as eye-catching as the skills of the great scoring forwards, perhaps, but he can run a game and dictate its flow better than anyone I have seen in the past two decades. doiregael2 (Derry) - Posts: 337 - 21/02/2011 20:18:33 873108 Link 0 |

I'm surprised Oisín McConville hasn't got a mention until now. BallsMcQ (USA) - Posts: 941 - 21/02/2011 21:45:46 873237 Link 0 |

Maurice Fitzgerald, why is there any discussion about this. There have been many other great footballers and I will not mention them all in this discussion. All of them deserve merit for what they brought to the game and the enjoyment they gave football fans. But this South Kerry Maestro was the most gifted footballer that I have ever seen. lostintime (USA) - Posts: 533 - 22/02/2011 13:07:54 873535 Link 0 |

YesCanavan brought an average team to the 1995 final and were questionably beaten on a bad refereed decision, no disrespect to the Dubs. But Maurice Fitzgerald brough a slightly above average team to Croker Park in 1997 and won the All Ireland! lostintime (USA) - Posts: 533 - 22/02/2011 15:22:40 873709 Link 0 |
