Galvin

it's an impossible task to narrow this down over the last 20 years

the team of the century was a joke, not for the great players that were included but for those that were omitted

Bryan, pretty sad, if 2 of the top 4 footballers of the last 20 years came out of Kildare!

Peter Canavan - Over the last 20 years there is not a player that comes close, what a player, not what you would describe as the ideal build to play Gaelic Football but he never let a defender physically bully him! He had skill to burn, an all time great, even watching the international rules his battle with the aussies he was no push over he give as good as he got. Used both feet and terrorised opposition defences! Deserved more All Irelands. The Meath team of 1996 seen the threat of Canavan and tried to end his footballing days but he came back stronger and his goal in 2005 all ieland final was a credit to the man.

One to watch: Sean Cavanagh (4 All Stars) an all round athlete when he takes a notion his pace and strength can carry Tyrone to more Glory. He has done it all young player of the year 2003, Player of the year 2008, 3 All Ireland Titles, Captained his Country and he can still achieve a lot more. A current great!!!

Maybe derryman meant Brian McGuigan, who I think is as good as his oul' boy, which is saying something. Of course, everyone has their own favourites out of the many great players mentioned here but I think Brian McGuigan is one of the most underrated footballers of the past decade - his sublime vision and intelligence are not as eye-catching as the skills of the great scoring forwards, perhaps, but he can run a game and dictate its flow better than anyone I have seen in the past two decades.

@ The master, of course I'm from Tyrone, but what lies have I told? Tyrone along with Kerry have produced some of the very best footballers certainly over the past 10 years and then when you're talking over the last 20 Canavan stands out from the rest, 1995 he carried an average team to an All Ireland Final, very unlucky not to win (some strange happenings that day by Charlie Redmond in particular). But to come back 10 years later and win his second All Ireland by scoring a sublime goal says it all.

In terms of talent pleasing on the eye - Mcdonald or Maurice Fitzgerald
in terms of greatness Gooch by a distance with Canavan the nearest contender

Only two others in the same league - Giles and Joyce

Maurice Fitzgerald, why is there any discussion about this. There have been many other great footballers and I will not mention them all in this discussion. All of them deserve merit for what they brought to the game and the enjoyment they gave football fans. But this South Kerry Maestro was the most gifted footballer that I have ever seen.

YesCanavan brought an average team to the 1995 final and were questionably beaten on a bad refereed decision, no disrespect to the Dubs. But Maurice Fitzgerald brough a slightly above average team to Croker Park in 1997 and won the All Ireland!
