Good decision for Fennell, bad decision for Dublin football.

If it was the other way round and a player wanted to move from Vincents to O'Tooles and Vincents objected would it have gone through?

It wouldn't have rumbles on that long. It would of been dismissed and the player would of back at Vinnies training or not playing at all.

just because you sign a piece of paper when you are 6 or 7 it should not mean that a club can hold you for life , a lot of players leave for different reasons maybe lack of ambition with the player or his club or your face does not fit or bullying , transfers have not done soccer or rugby any harm and they wont do the gaa any harm either

Think its bad news and a bad decision. O'Tooles were right to refuse

Lacks the pace necessary to make it at the top level of modelling.

By 2003 Caltra had never won a Galway senior title. In 2004 they went all the way and won the All-Ireland. Thic could only happen in the GAA, it could never happen in any sport which had a transfer system which meant talent moved to the clubs which are already successful. As I said already I know parish ties aren't half as strong in cities but this certainly won't do anything to strengthen them.

I suppose my point is that in any sport transfers keep the established clubs on top and makes it harder for other teams to make a breakthrough. What's unique about the GAA is that one generation of players can come a long for any side and achieve things which would have previously been thought impossible. It would be a shame if that was no longer the case.

Is that okay or do you need me to explain it further?

Smaller clubs in Dublin are already having huge problems holding onto talented underage players as the bigger clubs poach them away. Fennell had no reason to leave O'Tooles and now he has been allowed. What chance have any intermediate/junior club in Dublin of kicking on and improving if players are allowed transfer like this?

We need to get rid of the obsession in Dublin football of having to play senior club football in order to play for the senior inter-county. Look at the Cork team that won last years All-Ireland, they were drawn from Senior, Inter and Junior clubs.

A bad decision for Dublin football.

top point mes amis, its totally something that needs to change. players should be picked on merit and not who they play for.

Hipster tell me why this is a good decision for Dublin GAA?

I can see why Dub fans will be happy he is back playing club football as he is a player with some potential.

But for the smaller clubs in Dublin and around the country it is a disaster. He didnt seem to have any reason to transfer other than a better chance of winning silverware, as he was already playing the highest standard of club football he could.

Do you not think it is an integral part of the GAA that you play for the your local club, be that junior, intermediate or senior.

Should we have an open market and every player has the option to choose whatever club he/she plays for, which could also carry on to choose his/her county?

For the reasons outlines above. First off Fennell wanted to go to Ballymun, then Vincents once people got in his ear. If he doesn't win a senior title with Vinnies where next?

Its a decision for the bigger clubs. The DCB were trying to set a new precedant about transfers within Dublin that would protect Inter and Junior clubs. It hasn't worked, the big senior club gets its way and that is very bad for Dublin football. How can inter/junior clubs kick on and get to senior and challenge (which is to the overall benefit of Dublin football) if they're players will be continually vulnerable to poacher clubs. The demographics of Dublin GAA are changing with the massive clubs (numbers wise particularily in the South and West) at a huge advantage. If we allow moves like this to continue we will kill off clubs.

Dublin football is not just the inter-county senior team. We have an unhealthy obsession, that most successful counties don't have, with players playing senior club football.
