Ta it's not their anthem though, they feel no affiliation to it. As for the don't play for Ireland bit that is ridiculous. Ferris, Best, Trimble etc. have given their all for Ireland and don't complain about the anthems or flags. It's not even an issue in Rugby, only when talked about by ignorant GAA fans who know nothing about the sport

the sport of rugby is fine , its a pity the players of this country would stand up and demand their national anthem to be played they play for ireland , so they should show respect and stand and play the countries anthem , not irelands call , it would make you cringe , or get 15 players with pride of their country take over .

Why do you have to let yourself down like this? And the whole of the North as we all get lumped together.

If you do not want to have a discussion on the merits of rugby, well don't.

why the need to turn it into a music discussion?

Front row = Stocky Lads
Second Row = Big tall lumps of gassons
back Row = Half way between the above
Scrum half - Ducker and diver
Out half - quarter back /free taker
Rest of Backs - Need to be fast and fit to tackle

The rest of the talk is pure spoofology

Not a natural no.6/good at the breakdown/Not known for his ball carrying/ Great at being marginally offiside/

There is no other sport that subjects itself to as much bull**it analysis - its like wathcing a GAA match and someone saying
He is excellent at his third solo. His medium range hand-passing is unparalelled there is no better defensive line ball taker in the game.

I'm supporting my good man Ta on this one and it is obviously an issue for the players Plunkett or we wouldn't be having this daft 2 anthem discussion at all now, would we? I mean who is responsible for insisting on 2 anthems if not those players opposed to the national anthem? On a personal level I should just add that I care nothing for this sport and have never played a game of it in my life.

Hail!

Yes i love watching Rugby and no I dont for one minute pretend to understand the rules, just enjoy the physical battles, running skills, high fielding, etc. theres plenty there for everyone to enjoy if they can just throw off the shackles of their 'working class' chip on shoulder.

Ta, I hear you about Irelands call but you could do what I do and just press mute, and hey presto, that awful, awful tune is no more.

i have said before that rugby is a good sport i have no problem with that , the point i am trying to get across is the irish national anthem should be played at all international games , home or away , if it is no issue with the rugby , then why is not played ? , it is tradititional worlwide by many countries to play the anthem of their country before matches , you should refrain from the words ignorant , because i am merely making a valid point , it is totally wrong , there is no shame in playing your national anthem , there is a lot of inferior complexes on this site .

if people refuse to believe there is a border on this island then there is no point debating this point- paddy wallace, stephen ferris, rory best, andrew trimble consider themselves british and unlike the gaa the irfu is a realist organisation and acknowledges the very evident devide on this island and accomodates this devide. the island of ireland does not have an anthem? the republic has one and the north have their own- the irfu accomodates both as this is the ISLAND of IRELAND. if the gaa weere as tollerable then over a million people on this island would not feel as if they are completely isolated from the gaa- ironic considering it is 'supposedly' al ALL IRELAND organisation! All ireland perhaps if you are froma certain religion! the irfu is the shinging light and is the only true all ireland organisation which accomodates everyone- the gaa could learn alot but like the posts on here it apears the organisationa dn alot of the followers from particular areas have their heads stuck in the sand.

Mayo play down this weeked if i were not in rome and the soldiers song and GSTQ were played in mchale park - i would say yes thats the right thing to do, its called acomodation not isolation! a communit based organisation - what would they say aboout that up the shankill???

I suspect that you know full well what they would say up the Shankill as that is probably where you grew up and continue to live now.

Yeah decent enough sport, I would watch the big games on tv and I've been to a couple of internationals which have a good atmosphere about them.I wouldn't be mad mad into it I suppose I'm caught up in the hype a bit but sure no harm, everybody to their own.

By that logic every Ireland rugby match would be preceeded by both AnF and GSTQ.
Is that what you are saying? Cos thats the implication.

Maybe you should engage the brain more and the poteen still less.
