Sigerson Cup 2011....

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Lads, just read on the homepage about the possible involvement of Paul Galvin in this years Sigerson Cup..

A question I have wondered at this time of year is who makes-up the rest of these panels. We all know the half-dozen marquee names that do be on most College teams. More interested in the extended panel and what County they are from.

Has anyone any idea as to who are on these panels?

Paul Galvin or any mature student should not be allowed to play college gaa. its a joke
all this talk of burn out and closed season and yet this shambolic competition setup still goes on.

colleges gaa should be for 4 year undergrads only.

I have to disagree with that now. So just because a lad desides not to go to college after he finishes school and does a few years after he chouldn't be let play?

He'd still be able to play in that scenario.

The suggestion is that if you've been to college and played at third level already then you should not be allowed play if you do any subsequent courses.

Does anyone know what is Paul galvin studying at dit. In my opinion it should depend on the course if the play should be allowed to play in the sigerson. You should a student that studied at lets say UUJ not be allowed to play for qub or ucd if there are doing a masters degree thus furthering the education they have received at undergraduate level.

There is no restriction, PhD students can play.......23years and over is classified as mature.........why should they be prevented. Also, a person can do a primary degree in one subject and go onto do a Masters in what may seem to some as being unrelated but if they fit the entry requirements for that postgrad/Masters course who are the GAA to say otherwise.

DIT won the Ryan Cup last night at a canter, destroyed UCC. And they have Galvin to come in. Interesting that DIT had never won the Ryan Cup before, and their manager says here that only 2 teams who have won the League have gone on to win the Sigerson.

DCU will be team to beat with a fullforward line of David Kelly(Sligo),Michael Murphy(Donegal),Donie Shine(Roscommon).
DIT will b strong with Galvin, also have Gareth Bradshaw(Galway),Diarmuid Connolly(Dublin),Aidan OShea(Mayo) in their ranks

Thats a great FF line for DCU; would enjoy seeing those three lads working together, three of the best FF in Ireland.

Don't think Donie plays for DCU anymore as he was playing for Roscommon this year and fractured his thumb...

'Donie Shine faces a race against time to be fit for the start of Roscommon's National Football League campaign.

The Clann na nGael marksman suffered a fractured thumb during Sunday's FBD League defeat to Mayo and he is now rated as a major doubt for the Rossies' opening two league games in Division Four against Longford and London next month.

The injury could rule Shine out for up to five weeks,'

Donie Shine 0-8 for DCU against Kildare a couple weeks ago.If Shine fit for Sigerson that will be a lethal full forward,3 of the best young forwards around

Lads look out for DIT,have a superb team even without Galvin. Big hopes for a midfielder from Cavan called Gearoid MCKiernan. Free scoring and good in the air. Connolly seems to be finally ready to properly step up to top level football

Do DCU have any other good county players? Will they be able to get the ball into that FF line?

DCU were very poor against Kildare in this years O Byrne Cup. They are not as strong as in recent years. Odds: DCU 7/4, DIT 11/4, UUJ 13/2, UCD 11/2, Queens 10/1, Cork IT 10/1, NUIG 14/1 UCC 12/1
