Dr shepard i open to correction on the exact article but i believe it is cover under article 40.6.2 of the constitution that you do not have to join a union- most people dont know this and therefore can be bullied by the coomunists- what you are reffering to is a closed shop which in leagal terms is completely illegal- these people pray on vulnerable people who know no better. I but my electricity from airtricity- who in a letter told me they were ununionised- i hope you tell me ther are as i will sue :)

You don't pay to be in the students union in a university or third level.

What I am getting at is catching you out again. Its fairly easy to be honest. Every Business man knows what companies supply Electricity to the SME sector and above ie anything above domestic level. They are ESB customer supply, BGE, ESBI(Not Unionised) Vayu(Not Unionised) Energia(Not unionised) and Airtricty. I also know for a fact that Vayu and Energia offer the most competitive quotes in the Island of Ireland. You never even mention these once which means you have never heard of them.

I think what you mean is that there are jobs where your unionised colleagues will engage in a sustained campaign of bullying if you don't join a union.

And illegal. Working Time Directives, 1998 as subsequently amended. European law applies even in back water countries.

Patrique,

Some of the Union bashers on here would not want to see certain workers fed at all and would back the employer to the hilt while workers have their their human rights were denied !!

These people cherish freedom yet are happy to see Article 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights denied to victimised workers !! Eleven hours without a meal break is totally unjustifiable and if the employer will not deal with the issue then strike action is sometimes the only way workers will get justice !!

I'd agree with that alright...

11 hours without a dinner break is crazy. What the hell were the top brass thinking?

Who the hell put that new roster together... they are the ones that should be taken off the feckin pay roll. Silly, Silly stuff....

Feck the Aer Lingus top brass... I support the staff.

the ryanair model is the way forward - unions have ruined every business they ever enterted with their sense of entitlement- just look at health it is completely their fault and noone elses. so 200 staff are marching to air lingus head quarters with a letter saying they are willing and able to work- what airlingus must do now is send out a cleaner to accept the letter and say management will get back to them in due course, let them stew for a few weeks until they feel the pinch and do not evfen acknowledge their existence in the meantime and then on demanding an apology and a written letter that they will obey the rules i would let them back to work- i would also insist that these people never get a promotion in their life in air lingus as a result of this. Unions/ communists ruined this country and now are ruining the recovery with their greed- people should be dam glad they have a job and should be hell bent on keeping that job by doing what they are told. To hear the human rights brigade on here is laughable to say the least
