Bullets sent to Celtic manager and player!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

oh give over shepard, the league of ireland is rubbish. What kind of argument is 'oh they are better than you' of course they are better than me, im not a professional footballer. Relatively speaking, the league is very poor. Anyway back to subject, the bottom line is any lunatic can send a bullet in the post and im sure the majority of loyalists/protestants etc would condemn it, just like most of us would condemn the treatment that protestant lad received when playing hurling (check the link from my earlier post). Where is the distinction? It is all bigots 'fighting their cause'. What I find more interesting is the way ulsterman and the gang sink their teeth into it, with this 'whats goin on here' bit, like no catholic would ever stoop so low. Who do you think you are fooling?

I'm in final year so took a year out, travelling the 3 hour odd round journey three times a week wouldn't be the best idea in terms of my studies. I'll go back to playing next year providing I'm still in the country. And of course they're better than me, what a stupid argument. Inter-county Hurler's and footballer's are better than you, does that mean you can't criticise them? For footballer's here the dream is to play in Britain where money and fame awaits them. The fact these players weren't deemed good enough speaks volumes. Good players in the local league yes but if they were in England they'd be Conference standard at best

You still don't get. You can't compare everything to England. These lads are good footballers in their own leagues. They are not world beaters and nobody has suggested that they are. I would suggest that before you criticise that you take a look at yourself. Why not compare these fellas against your own ability as opposed to players in England? As I said previously, half the lads in the premiership wouldn't get a kick of it if they were in La Liga. That doesn't make them bad players, merely not as good as those in La Liga. I played senior inter county hurling, so I was good enough, but sensible enough not to compare myself to Nicky English or Sylvie Linane.

I have seen occasions where you have criticised the standard of intercounty football. Using your rationale you shouldn't be able to do that as they are better than you. It's a childish argument, these forums are here to give your opinions. And again these players may be the best in their League but every League has its best players. When compared to their fellow Irishmen you can't class them as being excellent, Vinny Arkins isn't fit to tie Keane's boots. I don't understand the point you're making, a comparison with other Irish footballers makes these players look average. Keane, Duff, Ireland are excellent, Arkins and whoever else you mentioned isn't

Did the fact that McGinn was sent bullets the same day as Lennon not already quash your theory ? Or did you find that "understandable" as well ?

As well as what?

Some very good players there Omagh and I played with and against a few of them. The fittest, strongest player I ever came up against was Stephen McBride of Glenavon and Linfield. He wasn't very tall but was an ox of a man who could run all day and night....then stick the ball in the net. One of the most cultured footballers I ever played with was Tommy Breslin of Cliftonville who's now Eddie Patterson's No. 2 at Solitude, he had a great silky touch. Gary McCartney of Glentoran was another fine player as were Pat Fenlon and Noel Baillie. There are some excellent players in the Irish League and Amateur League, in fact I would say that there are better footballers in the amateur ranks but fitter, stronger players in the Irish League. The best player I have ever came up against in the Irish League was Peter Murray who played with Cliftonville and then went to Portadown, he should have played across the water. As for PP's insults, well he is only an immature boy with no real knowledge or experience of life......if of course he IS who he says he is.

Yeah Ulsterman, you're also the reason Messi wanted to be a footballer and it's only called the Cruyff turn because the Ulstermna turn didn't have the same ring to it. Fooling no-one

Well it seems that you are fooling nearly everyone PP. Some of them actually do believe you are from Pomeroy and are a GAA member. How's the Cairo gang?

Some top class footballers in both Irish leagues over the years.

In recent times was it Liam Coyle of Derry City, wonderful footballer. Now the premiership might prefer a hard grafting "player" such as Stephen Hunt of Wolves, but Coyle was a far better cultured footballer. But we know cultured players are frowned upon in England, unless they are foreign.

Lad in my street when I was young was better than Bestie for beating people, a budding Jimmy Johnstone. Ended up playing for Hut 6 in the Kesh I think.

But personally I know numerous top class footballers who played in the Irish league for whatever reason instead of "making it" in England.

Same as I know hundreds of musicians and singers better than say Take That, Robbie Williams and The Corrs.

Many were not discovered simply because they never tried to be.

It is funny how people have no issue with comparing the english league with the spanish league when trying to discredit it, but rule out comparing the irish league with the english league. How does that work?
