Its just ridiculous that we're still in this situation. Let us all get on to our clubs so the peoples wishes are enforced. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13803 - 09/12/2010 21:49:37 830560 Link 0 |
Sure, everyone knows what the rules are. But surely the GAA have bigger issues to be dealing with than what is now an antiquated rule. Finance, both county and club, and emigration are two issues that are of more importance. Tongo (UK) - Posts: 1795 - 10/12/2010 08:07:01 830581 Link 0 |

First post on this, I cant believe the GAA are pursuing this. This will only antagonise people against the GAA and show them that they are indeed living in the 1950's like many suggest. If The Harriers can get a few bob for letting a soccer/rugby club use their facilities, does anybody really care. Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 10/12/2010 10:47:16 830641 Link 0 |
Tom1916, I'd bet that most of the new facilities being developed by GAA clubs are part funded by National Lottery grants (TAXPAYERS MONEY), I know our's was. This is narrow mindness on the part of the GAA. We trained in an Indoor sand based horse arena when our pitch was being developed and we didn't get charged either for the use of it. Running a club nowadays is a buisness when you look at the balance sheets (It cost 170K to run our club for the past year) so if a club has the facilities it should be able to rent to any organisation to make an income. one has to wonder if the headboys at the GAA where getting there slice of any money brought in from clubs renting there facilities would this be a problem i suspect not somehow. concerts rugby soccer even american football been played in croke park over the years and still theyll investigste a club making a few euros for there own grounds joke really ITSCHOLAR (Carlow) - Posts: 314 - 10/12/2010 12:10:59 830708 Link 0 |
Leaving the rules aside, could someone tell me what possible harm is there in letting other sports being played on a GAA pitch? Why on earth would it be banned? gigoer (Wexford) - Posts: 1998 - 10/12/2010 13:45:51 830786 Link 0 |
Double standards they open up croke park to other sports for money but will not allow clubs to do it . Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 10/12/2010 14:02:28 830805 Link 0 |
I wonder would they allow hurling to be played in the aviva stadium, oh that's right i forgot they purposely built it so it couldn't facilitate gaelic games. Tom1916 (Armagh) - Posts: 2001 - 10/12/2010 14:21:44 830828 Link 0 |

Ok Tom, can you give us all a coherent reason why a GAA club, in your opinion, should not be allowed to make some money by renting their facilities out to other sports? Considering that this money will go back into buying footballs, helmets, sliotars etc. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13803 - 11/12/2010 12:55:24 831204 Link 0 |
Our club has a brand new Astro turf pitch and they rent it out by the hour Mulligan Eamonn (None) - Posts: 896 - 11/12/2010 14:26:10 831246 Link 0 |
Why all the stupid arguments? Its very simple, a rule is in place to prevent this happening. Albeit a rule that is probably as old as the association when times were very different. But the president has made it clear that if a motion is put to congress he has no problem with it. So if everyone on here has such a problem, just lobby your club and get them to put the motion forward. Easy Con (Louth) - Posts: 511 - 11/12/2010 14:31:55 831248 Link 0 |

Tom1916: i'm English by the way, so your 'quisling' accusation is very much incorrect. I'm sure you'll take an instant dislike now, but that's your problem not mine. Tongo (UK) - Posts: 1795 - 11/12/2010 16:38:37 831299 Link 0 |
