Oh for god sake 'snide remark' what are you a child, I'm just saying that who my parents voted for has absoultely no bearing on who I vote for. Now would it be fair to say that you are infact a SF voter? and that your parents are SF voters seanie? because if your not then fair enough but don't try and tell me that peoples decisions aren't still very heavily based on who mammy and daddy votes for because they are and its pathetic in my opinion.
So your a part of the don't vote but complain most crowd
Huh? What? Where exactly did I say anything like that? Again are you just assuming that because I said I have no affiliation with any particular party it automatically means I'm a non voter because if thats the case then it looks pretty bad for your argument that your not a poisened voter seanie.

First of all the remark was snide, which in and of itself is fine by me,that you feel its necessary to label me a child for pointing out the obvious is remarkable. You made it snide because you personalized it by bringing my parents into your post. So everybody is influenced to vote for a certain party because their parents voted for them?Everybody except you off course because everybody else is pathetic in your estimation. How charming, arrogant nonetheless. Now let me say again that my parents voted for SDLP and Sinn Fein at different times. They were for the most part not very politically minded people, but they were nationalist/republican and the issue of sovereignty was something that was very emotive for them.I don't expect you to understand that but thats how it was for them. They were also very mindful of the schism that was widening between the Catholic and Protestant communities and it grieved them so.They were very disappointed in the sectarian aspects of the civil unrest in the north. My own politics where shaped by the environment in which I grew up and I have always voted Sinn Fein because I am a republican,I believe in the republican form of government, free from hereditary government and monarchy. So I assumed you were a whiner who didn't vote but likes to complain.Since you're fairly good at making assumptions yourself we will call it even :)
Fair enough seanie if your happy in your voting ignorance then I'm happy to meet you half way, but to be honest theres no doubt your part of a majority of voters in Ireland who's mind was made up in 1916 for every subsequent election. I just think people should stand back and realise that voting for extremists like SF or the DUP does absolutely nothing but harm to their community.
voting for extremists like SF or the DUP does absolutely nothing but harm to their community . Strange that the moderates of six county politics were unable to deliver stable government and the extremists did. East is East and west is west but if they do not meet in the middle ground our compass will never offer direction for the future.

No its not strange all, sure nobody up there seems to listen to the UUP or the SDLP, if SF or the DUP declared war tomorrow there'd be absolute anarchy. Extremists are dangerous the world over and you can be guaranteed once SF and DUP are still around there will never be permanent peace up North. But don't get me wrong I can see why so many people support parties like SF and the DUP, a lot of terrible things were done on both sides which leaves a very bitter, vengeful tastes in peopels mouths. I'm just saying from a totally neutral point of view that those parties are poison to peace because they are at two totally different ends of the political spectrum.
You can't change a spectrum derryman, it's kinda the whole point of it, it doesn't change. What I'm saying is people need to move away from extremist parties and try to forget the past. This sountry will never be a 32 county state and I'm perfectly ok with that, nationalists up north need to accept that fact aswell although they do have the right to fight for equality. But they shouldn't follow terrorist groups like SF who couldn't give a toss about equality, they just want a 32 party state and are fully prepared to cause as much violence and devastation as they can to get there.
Htaem I am afraid the enormous journey that Sinn Fein have made since 1969 from apparent anonymity to armed struggle in an artificial state through 30 years of persecution to truce, decommissioning and peace seems to have escaped so many people yourself included. It does seem to me that many do not wish to accept that the Sinn Fein leadership has not only evolved themselves but have by and large succeeded in bringing the republican fraternity with them through this evolution. ( the only republican leadership ever to hold the movement together)Ian Paisley is often commended in his transformation and was even rewarded with a peerage in the house of lords the leadership ask for no reward for giving Ireland a chance to progress the cause of self determination through peaceful political means only that they would be treated as equals to those who oppose that goal. I do hope their trust in Democracy has not been misplaced.
You seem unaware of the realities of northern politics so I will leave Derryman to educate you as to the finer details. You should google "Billy Leonard" for a different opinion than mine.
