829979 Farmer you havent a clue what your on about
Rugby is far and away the biggest sport in Munster bar a few pockets in south kerry and north Tipp.
And even Tipp and Kerry now are producing huge numbers of players to the Munster Squad
Rugby is without doubt THE sport in Munster.

Huge numbers of Kerry layers to Munster squad.? Can you name them?

I like rugby a lot man, what are you talking about? Its b/s that I don't like.

Just cos you fall hook line and sinker for a Diageo marketing ploy, doesn't mean we all have to.

liathtoidboy what are you going on a forum with all gaa people for if all you talk about is rugby and mock us about gaa and the way we play our sport. at the end of the day this isnt a rugby country, theres just a few boys in the wealthier parts of ireland who are so caught up on their own little cloud they havent a clue what the rest of the country are doing..

Mikeynora you may read his post again..he quite clearly states that this isn't a rugby COUNTRY..you go on about munster which is just a province in the country of Ireland..now untill Rugby has a club in every city,in every little town, village, hamlet and parish in Ireland..untill it has state of the art stadia in every county in Ireland i'm happy to say that Ireland is first and foremost a GAA COUNTRY..and will always remain so..

a cringe inducing ad.
like most of these ads where some commercial enterprise tries to create a big mythical load of tosh about some sport.
same nonsense being done with gaa a lot over the last few years.

i honestly believe that pound for pound marketing people must be the thickest bunch of muppets on the planet.
if they were in any sort of a proper job most of em woulda been dragged out n shot years ago.

Ha ha ha ha :)

Hey buddy, apart from Croke Park, name me ONE other "state of the art" GAA staium in Ireland!!

Sits back and waits for "Casement Park, Omagh, Semple Stadium, Pearse Park, Salthill etc etc etc" Not ONE of them anywhere close to being "State of the Art" !!!

The only state of the art stadiums in Ireland are Croke Park, Thomond Park and the Aviva!

ill tell you why farmer cause if there is rugby on tv - more people watch it than gaa- all the ratings prove this- this weekend the HC munster game will attract more viewers than all the provincial finals combined- rating dont lie, and i love the way you all gladly gloss over them cause you know its right. the other only logical way of looking at it would be to find out the advertising cost for a 30 second slot at half time in the all ireland final or at a 6n game- you would be surprised and again why is this because more peopel watch rugby than gaa. RATINGS DONT LIE - alas people have a problem with this because it tell the real picture and the gaa gombeens have a problem with the truth- there is no shame in admitting your second best, there is serious shame in denying it though. THIS IS RUGBY COUNTRY! :)

Rugby country is nothing to do with the amount of people who look at it on tv.. It's about the amount who play it and go to matchs every weekend. Its not as if youll even be looking at this all important match on irish television. If you are going by the people watching sport on tv you could say we are an english premier league country. I know rugby has grown in popularity in ireland since we got good at it but it doesnt effect the gaa. I'd say the rugby parts of ireland are just richer parts of the bigger cities and a few dots throughout the country like liathroidboy's part of mayo. This isnt rugby country, its just a country who can field 3 good teams and connacht

You just wont allow yourself to comprehend that the irish public perfer watching rugby to gaa- sad very sad indeed! playing numbers have nothing to with popularity thats PARTICIPATION my friend not popularity- popularity means bums on seats and viewing numbers on tv no more no less. noone ever questioned that more people play gaa than rugby and to be honest who cares popularity is driven by those who have discretion what to they watch? the answer is rugby- its not the few thousand that play either sport that is relevant its whst the millions who play neither prefer to watch on the tv and deep down you know that is rugby- rugby is the heartbeat of the nation :)

We'll have to wait till diageo do a marketing campaign about it before you are convinced.

2 questions
Can you name me ONE state of the art GAA stadium outside of Croke Park that can match Thomond Park? Even one? Semple Stadium even after its revamp is a kip compared to Thomond. So name me ONE GAA ground that is "state of the art" after Croker?
Second question
Which of these 2 games do you think has greater national significance and will garner more interest from the general Irish public

Munster V Leinster in a Magners League Game
Cork v Down in a National Leage Match

So i have taken a re run of last years All Ireland Final there. If you like, make it Dublin V Kerry, Tipp V KK, any pairing you want.

Give me an honest thought out answer here now

I'm not giving honest answers as they are not honest questions. You surely know that as well.

I like GAA and I like rugby. If you genuinely believe Ireland is a rugby country and not a GAA country then fair play to you.

Ridiculous argument in fairness. Rugby is behind a few sports in terms of participation in Ireland. People might watch it on TV but that could be because its usually never on up against another major sport.

I'd watch the odd game alright but have always felt that it was beneath me.

Bull Mikeynora. Absolute bull.

Far more people up and down the country love the GAA with all their hearts, follow their clubs and counties through thick and thin and have been doing so for generations.

Ruggerrrrr on the other hand is a minority sport played the wealthy of South County Dublin, and the fact that a disproportionate number of journalists come from South County Dublin can explain why it gets such a ridiculous amount of publicity. People pretended they liked rugby during the boom years, and watching 15 private school educated goys chasing an egg around Croker was a good metaphor for the Celtic Tiger years.

But that era has gone, and rugby 'fans', many of whom do not know the first thing about the sport, will soon start supporting something else, bog snorkelling perhaps or whatever else happens to be in fashion.
