HS:

The Viking and Normans were not Irish when they arrived here in huge war parties... far, far from it.

They cut heads with the best of the Brits!

Don't see what all the fuss is about, I'd proudly wear a poppy to commemorate the soldiers who fought against fascists to secure europe and probably a larger part of the world, forget about the armchair leaders and generals, instead think of the millions who were sent to their deaths at the stroke of pen.

Exactly spot on Meath... it's seems the supposed Anti Poppy "fascists" faction are just as "fascist" in their views as the supposed Poppy Fascists across the pond!

"How dare you not wear a Poppy"

"How dare you wear a Poppy"

These fella's have a lot in common...

814905 'Well, would it not stand to reason that their families were touched by the troubles every bit as much as yours or mine?'

Spanish citizens died during the Troubles. Was Spain involved in the Troubles then

You are trying to change the point you made. First of all you said Cork was touched by the troubles, an assertion I disproved. Secondly, Spain was not invloved in the troubles, but a number of people in Madrid were directly affected by it given that a number of Spanish were murdered in Omagh, therefore it cab be stated that Spain, or part of it was touched by the troubles.

I have no idea what you are talking about Dell. Feel free to come to Pomeroy tomorrow for a pint, I'll get the locals to verify who I am. I'll be the one wearing the poppy

So Omagh you're of the opinion that any country who had a citizen die during those years was involved in the Troubles? Why stop there, I'm pretty sure a Toyota was used in a car bomb, add Japan to the list of countries affected. Flimsy argument mate

No its not. Your argument was that these places were not touched by the troubles when it is quite clear they were. Your play on words is an excellent strategy but has failed this time. How was Ireland involved in WW1 and 2 then just because some of its citizens chose or were coerced into fighting in them? Surely by your logic Ireland was not involved in these wars as the country remained neutral.

Honest answer TA32 is that he doesn't get any grief in Pomeroy because he doesn't wear a poppy in the pub

Off course he doesn't Ta because he is not from Pomeroy and anybody from a nationalist and Gaa background in Pomeroy is not going around wearing a Poppy, ever.

Honestly Ta since the football ended I'd only get back to Pomeroy every couple of months so wouldn't know there. Around Belfast none at all, I wouldn't wear it every day because I do agree it's Remembrance day not Remembrance month but I did yesterday specifically for my great-Uncle

It was said tongue in cheek, I didn't think any posters would actually travel to Pomeroy to meet me. Getting away from the bizarreness of what you are asking (this isn't a dating site you know) as I mentioned to Ta I'd only get back once every few months. Belfast has more happening in it than Pomeroy and anyway I wouldn't feel comfortable on any level meeting someone who I've merely talked to on an internet forum. Sorry Seanie, you're not grooming me mo chara. Omagh I feel I'm giving this ridiculous argument of yours more time than I should but why not, it beats working. Cork wasn't touched by the troubles, it saw no violence. True two Cork natives turned to a life of crime and joined a terrorist organisation but you couldn't say Cork as a whole was touched by the Troubles, rather two individuals from Cork. If someone from here went and joined Hamas you wouldn't say Pomeroy was touched by the Israeli-Palestine conflict, at least I hope you would see the absurdity of that statement
